Tagalong Bourbon Shakes for One

Tagalong Bourbon Shakes \ PasstheSushi.com

Is everyone else ready for the weekend? I know I am. I am second shooting a wedding at the beautiful Delaware History Museum and planning on spending Sunday taking my sweet time, sipping on one (or possibly two) of these deadly little girl scout cookie inspired Tagalong Bourbon Shakes and mandating some much needed sit on my booty around the fire time off. It’s been all hands on deck, with no sign of things slowing down in the future – and you know what? I am ready for it. Excited for it. I’m excited about a lot of things these days…. […]

Chocolate Pretzel Granola Bars

Chocolate Pretzel Granola Bars | PasstheSushi.com

Is it just me, or is there a white sand beach with crystal clear waves calling out because it seriously needs a beach chair and a mai tai in it these days? I think it has a lot to do with the end of school and summer vacation season kicking off… you know, even though I don’t have kids. Speaking of not having kids…. the puppy has been hilarious lately. We were giddy with how docile and mellow he was. Haha! Tricked us. His newest phase is eating frogs… It’s gross. It doesn’t end well (for the dog or the […]

Rum Cake Recipe Handed down for Mother’s Day #FlavorStory & Giveaway

The best recipes are tried and tested. The come with notes and stains. They are on old wrinkled sheets of paper that small like a Sunday morning in the kitchen. They are handed down from one generation to the next. This rum cake is no different, a special recipe that was passed down from my boyfriend’s grandmother, to his mother, and now to me. And with all those combined years of baking experience, it’s down right perfect. This is a rich pound cake, with 8 eggs and more butter than I have used in months, it’s sinful. When laying out everything […]

Confetti Layer Cake with Vanilla Frosting

Confetti Layer Cake with Vanilla Frosting \ PasstheSushi.com

Being the most social blogger ever, I baked a cake for someone. Not just any someone, but the ever ever lovely prim and proper Ms. Movita Beaucoup. a delicate little dancer, who writes the most thoughtful and heartwarming posts that will leave you waiting in anticipation for the next, who also, just happens to ice a cake like a pro. Every year Movita Beaucoup’s site hosts several competitions that make the masterful DIYers and skilled pastry chefs crawl out of their creative dormancy and show off their highly trained mad skills. These competitions also make me want to wither up and quit as I […]

Dulce de Leche Cheesecake Pops with RumChata

Dulce de Leche Cheesecake Pops with RumChata | PasstheSushi.com

We’re almost there… Only a few more weeks until summer vacation. Kids are out, schedules slow down, vacations are to be had, and beaches are to be enjoyed. Yeah right! My schedule never slows down. But hopefully you are in final countdown mode and are looking forward to all things warmer weather and longer days are bringing. Me, I’m just hoping to make it to my Cinco de Mayo festival on time! Cuz I am totally bringing these Dulce de Leche Cheesecake Pops… especially after I added a little RumChata to them… And then added a little more. If they […]

Salted Caramel Brownies

Salted Caramel Brownies \ PasstheSushi.com

These are my go to brownies. Like, the best brownie recipe ever. The only brownie recipe you will need. I have been baking them for two years trying to find a way to make them not disappear before the camera got a moment to snap a pic. Trying to snap a pic without stealing a bite and smearing caramel everywhere. Debating on if you guys realllly needed to know what the best brownie recipe in the world was. I mean, we have set some boundaries. Keep some secrets from one another. Right? Otherwise this relationship just may start to get […]

Tiramisu and a Ledges Hotel Ski Weekend Review

Tiramisu \ PasstheSushi.com

As we bumped along in our truck down narrow icy roads, I looked across the seat to my driver and said, “Maybe this is it for us.” Maybe we don’t need the big house, the fancy cars. Maybe it’s just us, the bikes, good food, great friends, and some adventures here and there. Heck, that’s a lot better than my parents had it. And it’s perfect for us as we found ourselves knee deep in snow storms, skiing, and relaxing in a beautiful hotel in the small charming town of Hawley Pennsylvania, looking for a quick weekend getaway to invigorate […]

Chocolate Whiskey Cake

Chocolate Whiskey Cake \ PasstheSushi.com

Some things just aren’t meant to be. Take this cake for instance… I’ve made it three times now. I have the recipe memorized. Why? Is it that amazingly good? Well, no. It’s good, but not bake me three times in 4 days good. It is apparently the most delicious thing that little mischief monster below can grab from the counter and run around the house with though… Even from a booby trapped impossible to get to oh my God the dog just walked across the dining room table spot. Yeah, it’s been that kind of week. But then, when […]

Chocolate Whiskey Pudding

Chocolate Whiskey Pudding \ PasstheSushi.com

The days are now a wee bit longer, and mother nature is finally kissing us with a hint of warmth. My St. Patty’s day indulgence of whiskey pudding and other treats are now looming over me as I want to be outside thinking of hot summer days. But I can promise the guilt was worth every smooth bite. Pudding is one of those desserts that we should all take on a few times. It’s so darned convenient in those tiny cups that you can buy at the market. But they are no where near as good as the home made […]

Snickerdoodle Bars

Snickerdoodles are a cookie that I would have never picked up as a child. And really, when push comes to shove, I can’t say that next to a chocolate chip, it would ever be my first choice. But as an adult, with more exposure to the soft cinnamon cookie, I can  say that they are pretty freakin awesome. The other night, I was headed over to a friends house and needed to make something on this quick as we were fighting a broken heater and time constraints. I had everything all out and ready to make these, and at the […]

White Chocolate Mousse for Pass the Cook Book Club

white-chocolate-mousse-0315

In all the craziness, I haven’t busted open the cookbooks since October, for the Pass the Cook Book Club! I am super excited to be back with the club. This month Christiane from Taking On Magazines picked the recipes from  The Silver Palate Good Times Cookbook. All three of the recipes she picked sounded out of this world! Choosing one was rough, but I chose wisely. I love Christiane’s site. She and I often flip through the same magazines, and have even teamed up in the past on the same recipe. She has my kind of taste buds (except, I have a […]

Peanut Butter Chocolate Dipped Donuts

Peanut Butter Chocolate Dipped Donuts // PasstheSushi.com

Real life happens. And that means that sometimes the dogs are playing happily in the living room while you clean up and you can hear them and everything is peachy keen. Until you discover they happened to eat all the doughnuts you were baking for the last post of the week – and the final post of the epic doughnut week. And you have to start all over again.  And sometimes that sucks. Now, enough of my boring blogger problems – let’s get to the doughnuts!   There have been some amazingly smexy doughnuts up for show this week. Please […]

Irish Cream Filled Doughnuts

Irish Cream Filled Doughnuts from PasstheSushi.com

Yeah, we should be weaning ourselves off of the post holiday sugar binge with healthy salads and spinach smoothies. But seriously? What’s one more doughnut going to hurt? When Carrie and Brandy suggested a full week of doughnut popping recipes I jumped on board. I recently heard a quote, “Today’s food is next month’s body”… well… those skinny jeans aren’t going to fit in February – because I promise these recipes are going to have you drooling at your computer screen all week long. Grab your sprinkles and coffee. Lets jump face first into #‎DoughnutWeek! (oh, and let’s not even mention […]

Rum-Praline Shortbread #captainstable

Rum-Praline Shortbread from PasstheSushi.com

Santa is packing up the sleigh and reading for his ride. The reindeer are nibbling on their candy canes and fueling up. Elves are putting in the last go round and probably looking forward to a nice day off in their PJs. Kids are bursting at the seams in anticipation. And I for one am pumped. This holiday season flew by. Came too quick. Rushing by without a moment to savor. I have nothing wrapped and am disappointed that I didn’t find magic gifts this year that I knew would delight. But, as a client just asked me if I […]

Holiday Party Tips and a Killer Cranberry Vanilla Bean Cake

Cranberry Vanilla Bean Cake from PasstheSushi.com

Throwing killer parties is work – but it’s also a blast and I love doing it. If it were up to me, every Friday night would be all about entertaining. But we all know that’s not realistic. When I do get to entertain large groups of friends and family, I always have a game plan, a keep it cool mantra, and roll off my shoulders attitude about everything. Once you do it a few times, it becomes a breeze and you’ll see just how easy throwing a killer holiday party can be. 15 Holiday Party Tips to get you prepped […]

Skillet-Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie

Skillet-Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie from PasstheSushi.com

Dear Santa, it’s been rough this year. I can’t come up with a single idea for anyone. Normally I know exactly what I want to get everyone, plotting and scheming for months ahead. Counting pennies and making sure everything magically comes together. This year… Nothing. Where oh where is my Christmas magic? Will there still be a Christmas, heck yeah. Do presents matter? Not one bit. But I do really enjoy giving them, so I’m a little bummed out. Last month Staples sent me the Nexus 7 to test out. And to be honest, I’m against these sort of hand […]

Chocolate Mascarpone Raspberry Pie

Chocolate Mascarpone Raspberry Pie from PasstheSushi.com

A few weeks ago I noticed this young unencumbered couple was spending far too many nights and far too much hard earned moolah away from our own dinner table and out on the town. Now, this girl loves a good restaurant as much as any food loving fat kid, but I am also the stingiest little Ebeneezer you will meet this side of Dickens. I decided it was time to go back to my frugal ways. Time to pinch those purse strings and stop being so frivolous. I told myself no going out for two weeks (one night we knew […]

Classic Brownies – and a KitchenAid Christmas Favorites Giveaway!

Classic Brownies from PasstheSushi.com

Today is double awesome! I have teamed up with 19 other bloggers, hosted by Karyn of Dieter’s Downfall and Pint Sized Baker, and we are hosting a HUGE holiday favorites giveaway. There’s like a billion prizes to be one (ok, 20, including the grand prize) but that’s still kind of crazy, right?! Let’s kick things off with some holiday brownies. A classic recipe. Nothing fancy, no layers, no stuffing, no hidden candy surprises. Just a classic down home brownie. Because sometimes that’s all you need. PrintClassic Brownies Ingredients1/2 cup shortening 6 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder 2 tbs unsalted butter 2 […]

Pumpkin Latte Coffee Cake

Pumpkin Latte Coffee Cake from PasstheSushi.com

Normally, I test out one or two new recipes on friends at big holiday gatherings or social events, always forgetting the danger of that until I set the platters down and have my own private lack of Xanax induced freak out.  Instead of prepping and testing some recipes all week for a little upcoming Thanksgiving feast, this year I have been (much like a whiny child) doing my civic duty and serving on jury duty all week, leaving me unable to cook or test any recipes between that and working. Oh no. So, we’re going to wing it and see […]

Dulce de Leche Fluff Brownies

Dulce de Leche Fluff Brownies

{Notes from my past self to my future self – some weekends are awesome} Yesterday was one of those rare days where Handsome and I had off and weren’t obligated to some crazy list of events that sped out weekend into a blur that we wouldn’t remember three days from now. No, it started with sleeping in. It was followed by a serious dose of mountain biking with a friend of mine. Some hipster activities that involved leggings, Converse’s, over priced coffee shops, and loitering at one of our local bike shops. We then tried to get all outdoorsy by […]

Pumpkin Bread Pudding with Cinnamon Spice Glaze

Pumpkin Bread Pudding // Passthesushi.com

Still trying to figure out that holiday menu? That’s ok, because I am too. I have 99 pages marked and magazine recipes flying about and I know that when it comes down to it, the same old sides will be staring my family down the day of. But, if you are looking for something that you could break into steps and make a few days before, this pumpkin bread pudding is perfect. I made the pumpkin loaves a few days before  I wanted to make the pumpkin bread, snacked on a few slices for myself, and when I was ready […]

Apple and Brie Dessert Quesadillas

Apple and Brie Dessert Quesadillas from PasstheSushi.com

Eating out is stupid expensive. And I am very very guilty of eating out lately. A lot. A lot more than I would care to admit. With the holiday season right around the corner, it’s time to tighten the belt buckle and get back to my roots – making dinner. I have challenged myself to a solid 2 weeks of no take out, no eating out, and painfully, no brunch out. (Guilty of loving a Sunday brunch. I’m not alone, right?) I’ve written the meal plan, inventoried the pantry, and am ready to get back to some basics. Two weeks […]

Bakery Classics: Nutella Cream Puffs

Nutella Cream Puffs from PasstheSushi.com

It’s amazing what you can remember about food. The world goes whizzing by us at such a ridiculous speed that I can’t keep up. And, I’m no Super Woman juggling a job and three kids like a lot of you are. I’m just trying to hold my own. I don’t know where yesterday went. But I can remember exactly the first time my father made cream puffs. I can remember the smell of the choux paste baking into perfect little balls in the oven filling the house and how excited I was to pop an over stuffed cream filled bite […]

Lemon Cheesecake Coffee Cake

Lemon Cheesecake Coffee Cake from PasstheSushi.com

For the first time last weekend, I got to look up at a dark sky and see the stars. I mean, see the stars. I could see the milky way, thousands of countless speckles in the sky, and was in awe. It was dark and there was no one around. And everything seemed perfect. During our trip home, as the sun set I found myself looking up over and over again watching just how quickly the stars fade because of the lights around us and how few we could see as we drove. It made me want to see more. That’s […]

Peanut Butter Cheesecake

Peanut Butter Cheesecake from PasstheSushi.com

Handsome and I are headed out for a weekend of adventure in North Carolina. I’ll be meeting his sister, niece, and nephews for the first time.  It’s a much needed ‘family’ vacation and I, for one, am really excited. Handsome and I actually do really well in a car together for several hours – and I figure that’s a pretty big accomplishment for any couple. Nothing is going to plan, and we are both over due for a few days off so this is going to be a blast! Follow my Instagram for random photos and probably at least one […]

Whiskey Pear Tart – the one thing you should probably make this fall

Whiskey Pear Tart from PasstheSushi.com

This weekend was killer. Handsome and I participated in Bike to the Bay for MS 2013. It was a 75 mile trek from Dover to the beeches of Delaware with the option to add an additional 25 to round out the trip to a full 100. I went into the day wanting to crush the 100, but heavy winds and a need for a bit more endurance training made the choice to finish out the 75 easier. Handsome however continued on with another friend he met along the way and they took turns through the last 25 pulling one another […]
