Back to Basics: Coconut Bars

Let’s get back to some basics. The bar. Put the vodka down, that’s my stick, I’m talking delicious baked treats. Maybe it’s because I post for a food blog every day but I often lean towards fancy sweets, complicated cakes, adorable cupcakes, decadent sweets – leaving the most simple and most enjoyable basics behind. Often, ‘bar’ desserts come together quickly and pack a world of flavor with basic ingredients you probably have stashed in your pantry. The kind of flavor that makes you smile from ear to ear as you enjoy the few bites of goodness and sneak back for […]

Tequila Rose Popsicles

Tequila Rose Popsicles

This is a public service announcement. First and foremost, it’s my birthday month so we have to party down.  Which also means you should also all be actively trying to convince Handsome of all the awesome kitcheness I can’t miss out on – or anything else for that matter. Secondly, I wanted to show off my awesome new Recipe Index. Oh yeah, it pays to be your own designer some days. Course, if I wasn’t I would of had one a lot sooner that I would have to update manually (though I’m sure you wouldn’t have cared bout that).;) I […]

Blueberry Milk for your inner kid

Here’s a post to send you right back to your glory days as a small child when nothing was better then the large glass of milk in front of you and the awesome straw you may have been lucky enough to score to sip it all up with. The moment I saw this on Vittles and Bits I got so excited and knew I had to try it. As a kid ( and rather shamelessly still as an adult) nothing is more awesome than an ice cold glass of chocolate milk. Whenever we go out for breakfast, we are always […]

Waffle Ice Cream Sandwiches

Alright, let’s not beat around the bush, it’s hot out. But you share a space on this wonderful planet with me and already know that. In case you had a moment to forget about it seems to be all the news cares to talk about at the moment and Facebook is filled with posts updating me on the status of Mother Nature. Guess what guys, she’s still PMSing so lets move on. Time to whip out the old slip and slide and embrace things. You can even be real classy and run down to the Walmarts pick yourself up a […]

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

I may not have a sweet tooth, but I can never turn down a fresh muffin. Something about their consistency and texture make them perfect. And even though I am trying to learn to love fruit its its stripped and naked form – I’m solidly convinced the banana made to be in muffins and breads. It has to be my favorite muffin flavor of all time, with blueberry coming in a close second. I made these muffins back when I received a sample of coconut oil to try out as one of my test recipes. Next time, I’m going to […]

Root Beer Float Popsicles

Have I mentioned on here (half a dozen times or so) that I am girly-impared? Seriously, I should get the little window hangy and everything because it is it’s own kind of sippy cup special. Now take me and put m in the 4 inch fancy heals of a maid of honor and watch me turn pail. That’s right, my step sisters getting hitched and I get to be her maid of honor. I’m excited, but I hope you all can laugh through this process of learning wedding etiquette, looking at dresses and wondering when exactly one throws a […]

Black Bean Brownies – They Can’t All be Winners

They can’t all be winners, right? As far as recipes go, this one was a failure for me. And frankly, it would be unrealistic to assume everything that comes out of my kitchen is covered in awesomesauce. Truth be told, it’s not. I spend time picking apart even the dishes I get the most compliments on. Jotting down my thoughts and notes in cookbooks, on scraps of paper or here on the computer on how to better the recipe the next time around. I burn chicken, experiment with foods that Handsome pushes around his plate trying to make disappear, and […]

Lazy summer days: Honeydew Popsicles

Some days it’s all about kicking back and enjoying things at a slower pace. Looking at the clouds, letting the birds sing and just taking in some sunshine. I have a problem doing that. I always feel like there’s something else to cook, work that needs to be done, photos to be processed, a house that needs to be cleaned or a dishes that need to be done (very very guilty of the dishes one). It’s hard to make myself sit still and unwind but I’m quickly realizing it needs to be a mandatory part of the day. The other […]

Summer Grilling: Smoky Cola Jerky

Enchiladas, bacon in brownies and now ‘jerky’ – yeah, my inner carnivore was at its finest when planning the posts this week. I promise I’ll make it up to all of those sweet tooth people tomorrow with something just as ridiculous. Now! On to the meat. This weeks Summer Grilling item was actually supposed to be saved for next week, which I am calling #manfoodweek as we prepare for Father’s day, but that would have been a lie because I was making this one for a woman. My step mom loves Wild Bills beef jerky and the moment I saw […]

Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes from childhood memories

Enter to Win a 170z bottle of Carapelli Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil through May 22nd. TastyKake is a treat brand I can remember snacking on since I was knee high. I’m 99% sure it is not nationwide and that you have to be from my neck of the woods to understand how awesome it was to find one of the many TastyKake treats in your lunch box from day to day. A while ago it was in the local news that TastyKake was going to be closing down. I was terribly saddened by the idea of another local company […]

Clean Out the Pantry Granola, a bake sale and the Graeter’s ice cream winner!

This Friday, May 13, Steph’s Bite by Bite is hosting a bake sale on Friday May 13th to raise money Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I can’t wait to participate in an online bake sale! I’ve never done anything like this before but it is the second time Steph has hosted a bake sale on her site. I’m donating Cranberry White-Chocolate Chip Cookies (one of my favorites). Tons of awesome bakers are involved, so get pumped! Steph’s last bake sale earned $1,707 – let’s see if we can up the ante for round two! Now on to breakfast week, day two! […]

Cheesy Bacon Biscuits

**Nominations are open for’s best food blogs! I wouldn’t mind a nomination or two under best food blog if your feeling generous!  If not there a ton of wonderful other foodblogs out there that could use some lovin’! Just click here to nominate a food blog!** I’m pretty sure you’ve noticed that I have a large collection of recipes that are not what I would consider jogger friendly. Actually, in person my catch phase is “fat kid friendly”. Well, this is one of them and I’m making it official. I will now have a category just for these […]

Bacon Peanut Butter Cups

Yes, you read that right, Bacon Peanut Butter Cups. Awesome, wonderful, crispy, salty bacon is indeed hiding inside each and every one of these waiting to be devoured. Judge me, but you know you want one. I saw these little babies last week on Blog is the New Black and ran to my refrigerator to make sure I was stocked in bacon. I had to make them as soon as possible (Yes, I’m American and I will add bacon to anything and I do solidly believe it makes it better). Normally, if I like a recipe it gets put in […]

Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Muffins and a pick me up

How one phone call can make up for any horrid email. Let me start by saying I do have the best job in the world. I sell comic books. Point and laugh all you want but most people at the end of the day say they love their job. Think what you want about comic book readers, but you’re probably wrong. Hold you nose as high in the air as you can at the art form, but it’s statistically proven to help people learn to read. Judge me all you want. I’m comfortable in my boots. But I have 400 […]

Buttermilk Maple Muffins and the Giveaway Winner

I had dreams of going to Texas and discovering amazing restaurants and out of this world food. Unfortunately, my 4 days in Texas were spent in a hotel. The entire time. I’m not trying to sound unappreciative of my hosts. They feed us a lot! I just didn’t have the time to explore like I was hoping. It was 4 days packed with networking and productive meetings. I had a blast and really feel like I’ve made some great contacts in the industry. That’s right – I’m networking in the comic book industry. Think what you will, but I love […]

Pull Apart Bread for your Super Bowl Throwdown

Sausage Stuffed Pull Apart Bread

I feel like a blogging slacker for not posting great finger foods, hearty chilies, and messy sloppy gooey man food all week this week because honestly, I’d eat like that if I could all of  the time. I’d whine like a baby about feeling fat and ill for the rest of the day and drive everyone nuts, but some great layered nachos always hit the spot. And with the Super Bowl this weekend? How dare I! Oh, well. There will be a kitchen throwdown on Sunday for a few friends and my own palate that I will tell ya’ll about […]

Applesauce Oatmeal Muffins

I am not one to ‘eat healthy.’ My family never did carrot sticks and apple slices, so needless to say, it’s not really the thing I reach for when I need to chew on something. On that note, I am not a junk food person either. I have a box of Cheez-Its I absconded from my parents house with that I know will go stale long before I even put a dent in the box.   But, as I’ve gotten more into food the choices I make on a day to day basis are changing in a way that I […]

Chocolate Banana Bread

I couldn’t take it anymore! There are a billion food posts right now on Foodgawker, Tastespotting and Foodbuzz all featuring bananas. We all know this house is a fruit free zone but OMG, I really really needed some banana bread in my life. So the other day I went to the market and actually purchased bananas! I know! I wasn’t given someones old bananas, I actually paid $0.66 for bananas! (I even accosted some poor woman while I was at it asking how long it takes for a banana to go from green to brown. She looked at me like […]

Nutella & Peanut Butter Granola Bars 3.0

Am I the only one who has a sticky note collection of recipes I have got to try piling up on my desktop, a mile long favorites folder and a binder just for the recipes I’ve torn from the glossy pages of magazines? Probably not – but I have been promising Briarrose from Flour Dusted that I would try this granola for over a month! Way not cool. Excuses? It was December, there was a ton to do, I’ve been sick, it snowed? Do any of these redeem my laziness? I guess in the long run it doesn’t matter because […]

Chocolate & Candy Cane Marshmallows

Put on your pearls, lace up those apron strings and get ready to play little Suzie Homemaker, because you won’t be spending much time in the kitchen for this one and everyone will adore you for how thoughtful you are for making these charming little marshmallows. What cup of cocoa isn’t better with marshmallows? These little numbers do their job of melting into your beverage with glee. Seasonably fashionable, simple and adorable – what’s not to love? Hosting this season? These marshmallows make a great party favor. They are also a great little gift for teachers or co-workers.   Chocolate […]

Thick and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Thanksgiving is over (everyone survived) and the countdown to Christmas is beginning while I start running around like a chicken with my head chopped off. I have a full month of holiday events ahead of me (who doesn’t?). If I seem scattered in posting through the month of December it may have something to do with this, or the copious amounts of alcohol that always seemed to get purchased this time of year. Today I started digging out the holiday decorations and actually did a little shopping (that’s right – Black Friday shopping). It wasn’t as exciting as I thought […]

Red Velvet Chip Cookies

This post is an ode to red. I have a love for the color red that is about as annoying as those girls that draw hearts instead of dots over their I’s. If there is a color option for red you can pretty much assume I own it. So, the other day when picking colors for the kitchen, no one was surprised when “Country Door” (a dark shade of red) was chosen, except for me. The color swatch is a dark red, with a brown hue. A color I would put in the rustic burgundy category if there were one – […]

Coffee Cake Muffins

If you are a cheapskate like me (that’s right, I own it), you will do anything to save a penny – but, I am here to tell you a very important place to not cut cost! My # 1 mistake in the kitchen was buying an off brand plastic wrap. Don’t do it. Save yourself hours of time wasted cursing at yourself as you un-cling cling-wrap from itself, clean up small cuts from its horrible box and in general end up throwing more then you’ll actual end up using away. If you buy cheap plastic wrap, a muppet pours pop […]

Fall Back with Peanut Butter Banana Cookies

2 years ago, Handsome and I were just getting to know one another, still in the stage where you stay up till 4 am talking. The night the clocks feel back was no different, and he left around 5AM so we could both get some sleep as I had to work that day. There I was, young and in love, working the day away at the shop. The day passed and I anxiously closed the store and was ready for another night long chatter session with the man. As I was driving home, my phone rang. It was my boss. […]

Muffins and Donuts

The kitchen is a mess right now and it’s driving me crazy. It’s a total If You Give a Mouse a Cookie situation. All that’s really being done is new paint, but new paint means drywall work – new drywall compound and sanding. Lots of it. So, my entire kitchen (which is also my sewing area) is all pushed the middle of the room. To get a new color thread out I have to wiggle chairs and move piles of cookbooks. I just keep telling myself it will look rather spiffy when it’s all said and done…. If it is […]

Panko Mozzarella Sticks

mozzerella sticks3

I saw this recipe a while ago while cruising food sites and knew I had to try it. I love mozzarella sticks – especially the horrible ones they serve at the bowling ally. The problem was, when to make it? Talking myself into actually making the deep fried cheesy delight was a hard one. It was totally worth it though.   Add this to the favorites tab because your going to love it.   Panko Mozzarella Sticks Adapted from Ingredients: 16 pieces string cheese, removed from wrappers 1/2 cup flour 2 eggs 3 tbs milk 2 cups panko bread […]

Food Blogger Conventions and Mini Churros

I consider myself relatively new to the blog-o-sphere and wow, can it be overwhelming! There’s a lot going on when you draw the curtain back a little and take a peek inside. There’s networking, following, monetizing, conventions not to mention, cooking to maintain your own awesomeness. I would like to learn more about all of these things and I get the impression its kind of a dive on in sort of thing. The sort of thing you’ll figure it out with some trial and error, but if any one has any advice, I’d love it because I don’t even know […]
