Whiskey Pear Tart – the one thing you should probably make this fall

Whiskey Pear Tart from PasstheSushi.com

This weekend was killer. Handsome and I participated in Bike to the Bay for MS 2013. It was a 75 mile trek from Dover to the beeches of Delaware with the option to add an additional 25 to round out the trip to a full 100. I went into the day wanting to crush the 100, but heavy winds and a need for a bit more endurance training made the choice to finish out the 75 easier. Handsome however continued on with another friend he met along the way and they took turns through the last 25 pulling one another […]

Triple Layer Chocolate Mousse Pie

Simple Tart Dough

Pie Month. It came. It went. And I’m terribly sad to see it go. I took on pie month as a challenge to myself to conquer pie dough. And conquer I did. There was a double crust with shortening A traditional dough, replacing the water with vodka for a flaky crust. One from the pros at Cook’s Illustrated, with a touch of cinnamon, rolled in graham cracker crumbs. A quick puff pastry that makes me believe I may never need store bought again. And finally today’s simple tart recipe that was flaky, butter, and hands down my favorite of the bunch. This one will be my […]

Tart Cranberry-Cherry Pie

Cherry_Pie_0018

If one things scares me in the kitchen, it’s dough. We only had pie once a year in my house, one pumpkin and one apple.. All homemade by my father that we would dish out on Thanksgiving day to anyone who would eat them, because we didn’t. That is my whole pie experience  All 26 years of it. When I think pie, I think fruit filled, gooey, warm filled crispy golden crust creations. Key word in there being fruit. Fruit is something I am still not down with. Now cake, cupcakes, cookies, brownies… Yeah, I think I have those covered. But pie? […]

Rustic Pear Tart with Saffron Pastry

Let’s get real, have a little <3 to <3 shall we? My foodies, friends, and fellow bloggers, this one’s for you. Lately, things just haven’t been the same around here. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was a little down on the whole blog thing and couldn’t figure out why. I am certainly not tired of cooking. I still love snapping pics and getting better with my camera. And I’m always making plans for what to post next. But lately, I’m just not feeling the love. And after looking around and reading some other posts, I don’t […]

Peanut Butter Truffle Tart

peanut_butter_tart_0072

Please tell me there are some readers out there who are just as excited for the 2012 Summer Olympics as I am? Normally, I am not one to watch sports on TV. Something about the TV just makes it impossible for me to get into it. If I’m there, in person, then I can get into some sports. But something about the Olympics brings out the fanatical sports fan in me. It’s not that I know enough to root for a person or team but to see the struggle and effort from every athlete I find absolutely inspiring. I got all wrapped up in […]

Samoa Tartlets

About 5 years ago, with the horrid economy looming over head, I was lucky to be laid off. I left a job that I had come to think was important, I was making very good money and had been since I was fresh out of high school, the savings account was well stocked, and I was on my own. It seemed like the perfect sort of life. With all that around me, I wasn’t aware of how miserable a person I had become. Without warning I said my good byes to some very kind people, flipped some other people the […]

Pie it Forward: Sugar Cream Pie & Giveaway

Sugar_cream_pie_0154A

Two recipes in two weeks from the same book? Crazy, I know. First, let me start by saying that I am choosing to review this book and was not asked to. They did however send me an unexpected copy the weekend I had my wisdom teeth pulled, like a gift from the  Tooth Fairy, so that and the Percocet may have effected my opinions of this book. Conquering pie dough was on my list of things do to for the blog this year so receiving a book all about pie was about the best kick in the pants I was going to […]

Red_velvet_milkshake_0041A

Let’s get a little sassy today. Not sure what came over me, but this post is full on pink, girly, and packed with flavor. The moment I knew I wanted to make this spunky little milkshakes I was envisioning a great Valentine’s Day post…. Well, obviously missed that opportunity. Boys, turn away, and girls, let’s get girly! Pull out your snappiest pink nail polish, some awesome lip gloss and check out this Tart mascara. The next mascara up in my Sephora box of lash lovin’ was Tart Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara. At first I was put off by the overwhelming smell of […]

Meyer Lemon Pudding Pie

Sometimes you just need a few minutes, moments of inspiration to try to gather your thoughts and come up with a good menu plan for the upcoming holiday dinner. There is so much anticipation for classic family favorites that you only get to indulge in once a year, and then there is the opportunity for new traditions to be brought to the table. For a food blogger, I’m sure you can imagine the ridiculous amount of pressure. Lucky for me, I forgot Easter was this weekend and decided to wing it. A quick phone call between my step mom and I and we pretty much […]

Ringing in the new year with a Chocolate Pecan Tart

tart

We spent New Years Eve playing the Nintendo Wii with friends at our house and let me just say, we need a Wii. I don’t want to buy a billion games or waste hours playing anything new, but on nights when Handsome and I both have no clue what to do, the Wii would be a perfect solution. Ping pong an bowling, here I come. We were so involved in 100 pin bowling we didn’t even notice that the clock struck midnight and we missed the ball drop (giggle). It even comes in red now. Doesn’t that seem perfect […]

I hope everyone has a happy and safe Thanksgiving! Chocolate Tart

Whats with the new trend of mean holiday commercials? Ones where you are being told you bought a horrible gift or being spiteful to your mother in law (“He drinks coffee now, Mom“). Is it really easier to sell then happy cozy ads? Don’t get me wrong, I get that most families are really like that, but showing me the worst in people doesn’t really make me want to get up and jingle my booty into your store. We have 40something days to go until Christmas, why start bringing out the nasty now? I’ll stick with the same old […]

Apple Cider and Maple Cream Tart and political jargon

apple_maple_tart

I am going to say something right now few people would openly admit.   I am from Delaware.   No longer a state unknown by many in the good old U S of A, even though it was the first, now the state known across the globe for yet another crazy women running for a political position. I’m young and admittedly idealistic (meaning I’d like to assume anyone who wants to can become anything they want) but when did politics become such a joke. When your ad campaign starts with the like “I am not a witch,” you shouldn’t even […]

Twix Tart and the Death of Richard Cheese

DSC_0206a

In about 6 hours the alarm clock is going to go off… not once but at least 4 times with seven minute intervals before someone will get up and get out of bed. Do you know what wakes me up? The alarm clock ringing once. The third time, with Richard Cheese singing Hot For Teacher blaring through the speakings is just bloody annoying. I am not a bright eyed and bushy tailed morning person but I get up. I may not speak for an hour, but I get up. Let me check my email, grab some caffeine and get a […]

Malted Milk Cookie Tart

Kitchenaid Food Processor, oh how I love you. Let me count the ways…   Seriously, if my rents weren’t so good at making the holidays rock, I’d say best present ever – but really, they have made sure we always have awesome presents. However, I do <3 my beautiful red 7 cup food processor a lot. Today it will come in handy over 3 times, slicing and dicing my prep time down to nothing but a few quick pulses.  Someday I will have the stand mixer to match… someday….
