Monkey bread is a classic pull-apart bread recipe. If you're looking for a quick, no-fuss recipe to make on holiday mornings, this monkey bread is the way to go. With only 5 ingredients, you can make this festive treat in 2-3 hours, and it's almost impossible to mess up.

What Is Monkey Bread?

Monkey bread is made with bite-sized pieces of dough stuck together in the form of a bundt pan, kind of like a cross between easy cinnamon rolls and creole bread pudding. Smashing the biscuit dough together creates a delicious pull-apart bread perfect for Christmas morning or a weekend brunch. For this recipe, we're making an eggnog version of monkey bread for a festive twist.

What you'll love about this recipe:

  • EASY - You only need a crockpot for this recipe, making it the perfect dump-and-go dish.
  • FESTIVE - The subtle cinnamon sugar sweetness and that unmistakable eggnog flavor make this monkey bread a star during the holiday season.

What You Need to Make Monkey Bread

  • Canned biscuit dough – Use regular or jumbo-sized biscuits, like Grand's or store brand.
  • Eggnog – Any premade eggnog is fine. If you have homemade eggnog, you can use that.
  • Egg
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla

How to Make Monkey Bread

  • First, line a small 3 or 4-quart crockpot with a crockpot liner or aluminum foil and grease it. Next, whisk together the eggnog, egg, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and vanilla in a medium bowl. Now, roll the dough balls in the eggnog mixture and stack them in the crockpot. Pour the remaining batter into the crockpot and sprinkle it with the remaining cinnamon.
  • Then, place a paper towel over the top of the crockpot and cover it with the lid. Cook on high for 2-3 hours, checking often after two hours, as not all crockpots heat the same.
  • After that, lift the monkey bread out of the crockpot and turn it out onto a serving plate. Top it with powdered sugar and syrup, or combine the syrup and sugar to make a glaze. Alternatively, you can add rum to make a serious glaze. Enjoy!

Expert Recipe Tips

  • Cut the biscuit dough in half to create smaller pieces.
  • If you have the time, you can make your own homemade biscuit dough.
  • Get creative with variations! Consider adding chopped nuts, dried fruit, or even a drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce for a unique twist on the classic Eggnog Monkey Bread.

How to Store Leftovers & Reheat

Store leftover monkey bread in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also freeze it for up to 2 months.

To reheat, place a couple pieces of monkey bread in the microwave for 10 seconds.
