Light and Healthy Homemade Spaghettios with Cheez-its

Spaghetti_Os_0560

It’s 7:53 PM as I prep this post for your hungry eyes but all I can think about is sleep. Even though we have a bad movie waiting to be watched via Netflix and I should be getting pumped for zombie gore – I want my pillow in the worst way. I rode 28 miles in 2 hours and 10 minutes today. So, I feel like I have an excuse for my insane fatigue. And then I hop over to this blog and feel like a total slacker. I’m ready for my pillow and all I did was ride today […]

Chipotle Apple Turkey Chili with Honey Cornbread

turkey_chili_0243

What could possibly take the place of this meat mavens love of all things flame kissed and charbroiled and boot my weekly grill recipe now that fall is officially here and baking season is upon us? (Man, I really hope that opening sentence got you as pumped as me). Well, think warm, comforting, and cozy. Think of thick blankets and bonfires. Think of the smell of roasted chicken, onions, potatoes and fresh bread filling the house. Yeah, it’s time for soups and stews in the PtS kitchen. For every week of fall I am going to feature a delicious and […]

Turkey Sliders with Avocado-Ranch Dressing

Turkey Club Burgers

Can you believe the entire month of August went by without a single burger post on PtS? How the heck did that happen. I will never be making that mistake again. Actually, I’m considering incorporating even more burger loving on the blog. In the front of every issue of Rachael Ray magazine there’s a featured burger. It’s one of my favorite things about the magazine. Well, I’m thinking a burger of the month club is something that is long over due here as well. Meanwhile, enjoy your Labor Day celebrations if you are lucky enough to have the day off […]

Grilled Thai Turkey Salad

Hope everyone had a great Father’s Day weekend! We took a little trip down to a town called  St. Michaels for an antique boat show with Handsome’s parents on Sunday.  There were tons of old wooden boats docked for people to look at. The town was beautiful too, with little shops and tons of ice cream parlors! We had a fantastic dinner at Akai Sushi & Cafe and then wondered around some out let stores. If we had fit in a little mountain biking it would have been a perfect Sunday. Now for some healthy Monday post weekend detox type food.

Leftovers? Eat like a pilgrim, Pilgrim Sandwich

pilgrim_sandwich_3

The best part about Thanksgiving? The leftovers, duh! For as long as I can remember, a local sub shop has offered a sandwich all year round that is a carb-oholic’s dream come true. The sandwich starts with a beautiful thick hoagie roll overflowing with stuffing, turkey, cranberries and a slather of mayo. It’s the kind of sandwich that requires a long nap or a marathon immediately afterwards.  It’s the kind of sandwich I only allow myself to order maybe once a year. It’s the kind of sandwich that give’s angels wings. Oh yeah, it’s that good. So, you can imagine […]

Football Appetizers: Hoagie Dip

hoagie_dip_8

Are you ready for some football? Good, cuz I’m not. To be honest, I know nothing about football. I only watch one game a year, and sadly since Janet Jackson decided to flash a stadium full of people and several million all age viewers via cable, I can’t even say it’s for the commercials. (Come on! They have not been nearly as amusing as they used to be.) But on that one cold day at some point in 2012, I’ll be into football. I’ll pick a team based on little knowledge of the players, who else is in the room, […]

Thai Turkey Burgers with Broccoli Slaw

thai_burger

The other day I stumbled across this post from Chow about Backseat Grillers. It talks about those people that can’t help but be a little to involved with your grill at a barbecue. Those people that jump in and flip burgers, change temps and try to run the show for you. They are just trying to be helpful, but we all know how much this can grate on your nerves. It also talks about how hard it can be as a female at the grill to avoid these people. I talked last week about how in our household, I am […]

Simple Turkey and Brie Sandwich

“You don’t look like a food blogger.” I can’t be the only one who’s heard that oh, 10,000 times. I’m shocked by how many people say this to me on a day to day basis. So, just what does a food blogger look like? Are food blogger supposed to fit a type, because last time I checked, everyone liked to eat. I never realized how quickly people assume they know something about someone by the way they look. Are all kids who wear black emo? Is everyone with tattoos a punk? Do reiki masters only have one solitary interest in […]

Curried Turkey Pot Pie

potpie4

Even though we had several people join in our Thanksgiving feast, it just wouldn’t be the same without leftovers. And despite everyone’s best efforts, there were plenty of leftovers. My parents sent us home with a giant plate of turkey, an entire pie and the trimmings. But, as much as I love a simple turkey sandwich on white bread, this much turkey needed to be used up before it went bad. I had seen a show the other day where the chef made a curried chicken pot pie and new that’s what I would be doing with my Thanksgiving day […]

Maybe its not me, its you….

Stuffed Turkey Burgers

You know the saying – “full me once shame on you, full me twice, shame on me.” Well, full me a third time – it’s my damned fault – I should have learned my lesson. What was I thinking? In the past week I have prepared 3 recipes from the Neely’s on Foodnetwork.com and for all 3 my taste buds have been left saddened by the lack of flavor, zest or zing. I am not a fan of the Neely’s on TV because it’s just too much mushy for me. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy for anyone who […]
