Yeah, you that right. Chocolate Martini Pudding Pops. Bring on the heat. Bring on the raging dog days of summer, the long mountain bike rides, and all the sweat. Because when you have a batch of these rich chocolate frozen treats waiting for you at home, it’s all worth it.

Slushed is a perky recipe collection of 150 ‘Frozen, Boozy Treats’ and at first flip through the pages I was hooked.

Technical Level: If you can crack an egg, you can make the recipes in Slushed. There is nothing complicated about the instructions or recipes. The most you will have to do it be sure to prep your equipment 15 hours ahead of time (not speaking from personal experience or anything).

Graphic Design: Slushed is a short cookbook, in comparison to some of the encyclopedia size collections I have seen recently. 99% of the pages are filled with recipes, one per page (a format I am a huge fan of), with two short sections devoted to images for a few of the featured recipes. Most of these recipes are pops and ice cream, so really there is no need for an image to accompany each and everyone – we all know what ice cream looks like, right? 😉 The font choice is clean, the cover is fun, and the few images shows and quality.

Recipe Quality:  Even as I type this, my fancy pants ice cream attachment for the Kitchenaid is hard at work churning away my first back of ice cream. I have dogeared at least 17 other pages for ‘must try’ and am very excited to taste test gelato and frozen yogurt for the first time. The flavors range from simple, like these, martini pops, to Matcha Green Tea frozen yogurt with Green Tea infusion. So far, it’s all good. I hope to be many many more recipes from this collection.

Personality: There isn’t much room for author personality in this dense little cookbook. However, it doesn’t feel lacking. You are too busy perusing the recipes to stop to get to know the author, though, I do enjoy a cookbook more when there are short snippets and excerpts from the creative team behind it. This book does get serious bonus point for the dedication, “To my wolfpack.” I don’t know Jessie Cross, but that right there makes me think I’d like her.

Why I’d Buy: Um, this is a book packed with 150 – 150 alcohol infused ice cold desserts. Need I say more?
