To make apple bread, mix apples, 1 cup brown sugar, buttermilk, oil, and eggs in a large bowl. Add remaining dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Pour into pans and bake for 45 to 55 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on a rack for about 1 hour.

To prepare the glaze, melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, then simmer for 2 minutes. Add milk, bring to a boil, and remove from heat. Let it cool for about 30 minutes.

Gradually mix in powdered sugar until smooth. If it thickens too much, add milk slowly or warm it over low heat while stirring. Drizzle the glaze over the loaves, then store them tightly wrapped at room temperature for up to 4 days or in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.
