Bake up a batch of irresistible French toast sticks that are crispy outside and custardy inside. This recipe guides you through creating a fun, dippable breakfast treat with minimal effort.
Slice the bread into 1" strips and arrange on a wire rack for 1 to 2 hours. (I let my bread get stale before soaking it).
When ready to cook, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Prep a baking sheet for cooking by lining with parchment paper.
Combine the heavy cream, eggs, 2 tsp cinnamon, vanilla, and salt into a shallow dish vanilla.
Toss the 1 tsp sugar and additional 1 tsp cinnamon in a small bowl for sprinkling later; Set aside.
Dip each breadstick into the batter and roll around to coat all sides.
Let excess wash drip off and arrange on the baking sheet to fill the pan, leaving a 1" boarder between each stick.
Bake the French Toast
Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, until golden brown, flipping once halfway through bake time.
Serve
Sprinkle immediately with cinnamon sugar when removing from the oven.
Flip and sprinkle the other side. Let cool.
Freeze for Later
Place in freezer in a single layer to freeze for 30 minutes before tossing into a large resealable freezer-bag to freeze in batches as needed for busy weekdays.
Repeat as needed to finish up the loaf of bread.
To Reheat
Preheat the oven to 350 and heat the French Toast Sticks in the oven or in a toaster oven. They will taste so much better, and have a much more enjoyable texture than trying to microwave them. Serve with a small cup of syrup for dipping.
