I teamed up with ALDI for their Try and Tell Program for this post, however, the two ingredient magic shell amazingness and opinions expressed in this post are my own.

My mom always kept a stash of semi-sweet chips in the crisper drawer of the fridge. We would take a few out and place them in the bottom of a bowl. A scoop of ice cream would go on top. When I got to those frozen little chips, it was, to me, the frosting on the cake.

And then came along magic shell.

I’d always loved the ice cream bars with the snap of a thin layer of chocolate around the outside, so a chocolate drizzle that I could pour over my own ice cream, oh that was magic indeed.

Tonight, as I rushed to get home, I stopped at my local ALDI to grab a quick take & bake pizza for dinner. I just didn’t want to think about what to make and knew popping the thin crust meat pizza into the oven would be perfect. I also love that they always have them thawed and ready to go. Grabbing it, I passed through the store quickly on that weeknight mission to hurry home. But, I noticed the semi-sweet chips and couldn’t help myself. I balanced the bag on the pizza box and made sure to peek at the ice cream on the way to the checkout.

I must have looked like a hungry teenager.  In line, holding pizza, ice cream, some granola bars, chocolate chips, and a precariously hanging gallon of milk. A perfect movie night in. A young mom, with her cart loaded for her two sons at home, let me skip in front of her and chatted with me about the "joys" of having boys as we got excited over the new re-useable bags ALDI had put out for sale. It was fun to listen to her as I giggled to myself about my oh-so-mature night ahead. I wished her luck and was on my way. The smaller layout is really starting to grow on me now that I have been back a few times. In and out in under 5 minutes and I only spent $10.58.

Just one of the many reasons I am learning to love my ALDI.

When I walked through the door, cooked my pizza while playing with the dog, and then took 3 minutes to bring a simple childhood joy back to life. All I needed were two ingredients. Semi-sweet chips and a bit of coconut oil. A few minutes later, my ice cream treat was perfect and I was back in my childhood. I loved the semi-sweet chips - because I take it as my duty to taste test a few…. And then a few more. Best part was, I wasn’t able to tell the difference in taste and in my magic shell recipe between the nationwide brand and the ALDI brand.
