And is there a better tool to have at your disposal on Thanksgiving than a good knife? Simple answer. No.

The kind people at New West KnifeWorks sent me a shiny new Petty Utility Knife Fusionwood 2.0 to test out in my own kitchen. I have only had it a few days, but darned if it isn't currently the sharpest blade in my kitchen. Trust me, I was almost dumb enough to go all Sleeping Beauty on it. This little knife chops through tomatoes and apples so smoothly (tomato skins annoy the heck out of me!) and makes quick work out of carrots and celery. The rainbow colors make it stand out against my other knives and is beautiful as a display pieces for cheeseboards (make your guests sign a disclaimer before letting them use it. No lawsuits here). On top of beautiful design, New West knives are all 100% made in America, in Wyoming, out of fushionwood and CPM S35VN Steel. Not to mention these super sharp bad boys come with an adorable leather cover and a lifetime warranty.

I liked their page - I always love the colors of their knives, so fun and pretty. As for Thanksgiving, thankfully I am traveling for the holiday, but I still want to bring something. But it has to survive a 10 hour drive.

Let me know which knife looks most needed in your kitchen: I really need a bread knife, a BIG one. I hate gloppy, gooey, mass-produced bread. I hate pre-sliced bread, I want my bread as fresh as possible. The bread knife I have is long, cuts well, but is so wide & aggressivly serated that it produces an amazing quantity of crumbs with every slice.

Honestly I think that the 7 piece knifeset in the teak knifeblock looks the most needed, but Santa said I would have to settle for the Santoku Chef Knife. I am a little miffed since I know I've been good this year 😉

  43. Honestly, I need all of them 🙂 We currently have 3 small knives from Ikea and one big one from...wait for it....a dollar store. We traveled for most of the year for a long time, so we're just now getting settled and getting to buying normal household things. Knives are top of the list.

  44. The aesthetics of this knife made me stop what I was doing...and has me clicking like a maniac on photos, facebook, twitter, pinterest...well, you know. Seriously, beautiful....Oh...and yes...I did like them on facebook.

    1. I almost forgot about the flattery and bribes! Sorry! 😀 Truly, I was linked to your site in an interest to learn more about the knives, but it really is beautiful. In fact, I kept searching around to try to figure out what webhost you use. I've just been testing out the "food blog" waters and have decided to get serious and do this. Love the design and graphics. I'm looking forward to reading your posts. Great to have found you!

  54. i love every beautiful new west knife, but if i could have any, i would LOVE to have their hunter's knife https://www.newwestknifeworks.com/product/kitchen-knives--fusionwood-20-line/jh-hunter/4331

i spend a lot of time outside and will be learning to hunt this summer. it is hunting season this weekend where i live in the ozarks.

if i had a multipurpose knife like this, i would use it for preparing meat in my own kitchen, and then bring it up to my friend's house in the woods in north-central michigan so i can learn to prepare a deer with the proper tools.

i would use this knife constantly. i have only one decent-quality knife - a tiny little fixed-blade 3in benchmade - and i use it CONSTANTLY. i harvest edible and medicinal plants from the woods, cut woody stems on delicious hen-of-the-woods and chicken-of-the-woods mushrooms, and honestly (being a 120lb female) find i just feel safer and better equipped to deal with life with it in my pocket.

i'd love to have a slightly larger multipurpose knife to use in my kitchen, out and about in the woods, or for whatever comes up!

these new west knives are gorgeous and look so well-crafted! <3
