Slow Cooker Tarragon Chicken

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. The big boxy, low priced, convenient, and oh so guilt inducing Walmart…. There is a big giant super Walmart a few minutes from my front door and I hate it. I fell into the Walmart trap and found myself going there often for things. The produce was decent and so inexpensive. The dry goods and canned foods were unbeatable. The cream cheese was priced to make me do a happy dance in public. But, I have never been one to like shopping at a Walmart. Something about it just made me feel guilty. […]

Drunken Pork Chops and Savory Green Rice with Fontina

It’s January 2nd and all I have on my scratch sheet of paper is the words screwing up. No profound new years resolutions. No list of organized and achievable goals. Nothing. I’m in a funk. What do you do when you screw up? Especially when you don’t mean to. When it is a genuine mistake. You’ve somehow hurt, upset or offended someone and an ‘I’m sorry’ just doesn’t seem like it will cut it. A customer and friend of mine once said, “I have ‘Catholic guilt’.” I immediately knew what he meant (and also realized that I have suffered from that same guilt my entire life). […]

Open-Face Hot Chicken Sandwich with Creamy Mushroom Gravy

I owe every one in the foodie blogging world an apology. Where I have made sure that posts were scheduled and up for the last week, I have been really bad at checking out everyone else’s posts and commenting. As I type this, it’s Monday night (I know, it’s Wednesday) and I haven’t had a moment to myself in 10 days. I have only been home before 8 PM once. My dad’s wife has been away on business for the past 10 days and even though my father is young, healthy, and fully capable of taking care of himself, I have still stopped by every […]

Apple Cider Floats

I work right next door to a co-op and every Sunday, while the weather permits, they host a farmers’ market. It consumes most of the parking lot with a wide variety of goods from farm stand fair to a wood fire pizza truck. Yes, you read that right. It’s kind of nifty because every other Sunday during my shift, it gives me no excuse to check out a farmers market. Problem is I rarely carry cash but am finding myself purchasing more and more organic, natural, farm raised, etc at the grocery store. Moving forward I am hoping to be […]

Chocolate Peanut Butter Birthday Cake

Birthday_cake31

It’s my party – I do what I want. Ok, not really. But it is my birthday and I thought we could celebrate with something a little special. I’m not sure when my blog-aversary would be as I’ve owned Pass the Sushi for a few years but didn’t actively start ‘blogging’ until last year so we’re going to party down on my actual birthday. It’s Wednesday, hump day, right smack in the middle and I’m working – so why not throw a virtual b-day bash! I turn a quarter of a century old today. It feels as though that should […]
