Chocolate Mascarpone Raspberry Pie

Chocolate Mascarpone Raspberry Pie from PasstheSushi.com

A few weeks ago I noticed this young unencumbered couple was spending far too many nights and far too much hard earned moolah away from our own dinner table and out on the town. Now, this girl loves a good restaurant as much as any food loving fat kid, but I am also the stingiest little Ebeneezer you will meet this side of Dickens. I decided it was time to go back to my frugal ways. Time to pinch those purse strings and stop being so frivolous. I told myself no going out for two weeks (one night we knew […]

White Chocolate Coconut Cream Pie

White Chocolate Coconut Cream Pie from PasstheSushi.com

Some of you may know this, but I sling comic books for a living. And let me tell you – there has never been a better time to be a nerd. Between the Big Bang Theory (and the 9 million people that ask my if I’m Penny and if it’s really ‘like that’ every single week – seriously, Penny?! That’s kind of an insult… and kind of not all at the same time…), GOOD superhero movies galore, and freakin fantastic comics, its the dream life. Normal people buy comics. Nerds buy comics. Hipsters buy comics. Girls buy comics. Families buy […]

Boston Cream Pie – for Father’s Day

Boston Cream Pie from PasstheSushi.com

Today is all about Dad. The man of the house, the king of the castle, and speaking as my daddy’s little girl – the most awesome, selfless, coolest, tougher than nails, genuine, always make you smile, give you the shirt off his back, truest person that I will never know. I am blessed to have an amazing father and a great relationship with him. We are best friends, and I can’t imagine it being any other way. He’s where I get my stubborn streak (ask Handsome, he is the one who points this out to me all. of. the. time.) […]

Triple Layer Chocolate Mousse Pie

Simple Tart Dough

Pie Month. It came. It went. And I’m terribly sad to see it go. I took on pie month as a challenge to myself to conquer pie dough. And conquer I did. There was a double crust with shortening A traditional dough, replacing the water with vodka for a flaky crust. One from the pros at Cook’s Illustrated, with a touch of cinnamon, rolled in graham cracker crumbs. A quick puff pastry that makes me believe I may never need store bought again. And finally today’s simple tart recipe that was flaky, butter, and hands down my favorite of the bunch. This one will be my […]

Pumpkin Pie Fudge

Pumpkin_fudge_0225

Anyone who says they enjoy looking through the catalogs of stores like Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma clearly is not living in the same salary bracket as myself. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that, but personally, it’s like poking myself in the eye with a hot fork. So when this article hit the web and spread like wild fire, I took a 15 minute break at work and laughed out loud. Seriously, if you have not read it yet, close my page and go enjoy it. I’ll let it slide this time. I too had recently received my oversize stack of wishful thinking in the mail and had […]

Pumpkin Pie with Brown Sugar Meringue & a #Pumpkin Recipe Round Up

Pumpkin_Pie_0137

Don’t know about you, but I am in serious denial. Denial that Thanksgiving is next week. Denial that Christmas is like 39 days away. Denial that I won’t be able to try all the new recipes I had planned for you. Denial that my house needs a top to bottom scrubbing before anyone can set their merry little toes in my doorway this season. We may need to form a support group. As for Thanksgiving, I am not prepared. I had plans of posting main dishes and sides, but there was a hurricane, then some sick days, and me working […]

Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie

Pecan_pie_0053

There’s been a lot going on for the last few weeks in the world. For my part, and many not so far away from me, a lot of the busyness has been dealing with the aftermath of hurricane Sandy. In my neighborhood, we got lucky. Really lucky. My boyfriend only had to help his grandparents with some flooding. Other parts were not so lucky and many are still displaced from their homes and in need of a helping hand. I have teamed up with several other great bloggers across the internet to help bring more awareness and maybe even some donations to […]

Tart Cranberry-Cherry Pie

Cherry_Pie_0018

If one things scares me in the kitchen, it’s dough. We only had pie once a year in my house, one pumpkin and one apple.. All homemade by my father that we would dish out on Thanksgiving day to anyone who would eat them, because we didn’t. That is my whole pie experience  All 26 years of it. When I think pie, I think fruit filled, gooey, warm filled crispy golden crust creations. Key word in there being fruit. Fruit is something I am still not down with. Now cake, cupcakes, cookies, brownies… Yeah, I think I have those covered. But pie? […]

Apple Pie Stuffed French Toast

apple_pie_french_toast_028

Do you judge a market by it’s price tags? Do cheaper price tags and bottom dollar prices make a market less clean or not as good as the ones with the flashy price tags and eateries? My favorite market isn’t the most expensive one in town, but because of it’s location the client base is very wide which means I can find almost anything I am looking for on the shelves, and at prices that won’t make me cringe either. It isn’t always spotless, but with the volume of people they get, I can’t complain about the tidiness though I have […]

Apple Slab Pie

Apple_Slab_bar_0012

This round of Digging it Tuesday is all about clinging to the summer sun. This weekend I packed a ton of last minute summer loving and even though Fall is here and we are full into soups, stews, and the sun setting way to early (killing my rides by the way). Random end of season beach trips  Martinis. Pretty much all of them. Summer Recipe Round Ups Photo booths. Seriously, there should be more of these everywhere, even if that did mean we would have to deal with insane amount of inappropriate images that would pop up if there were more secluded areas […]

Key Lime Pie for Two

Key_lime_for_two_0448

Everything’s cuter in mini form right? Coopers, dogs, hobbits – all irresistible. Skirts are the only mini that come to mind that need a little more personal censorship… And we all know what happens when you shrink desserts down to a mini size. We go gaga over them. Mini muffins, doughnuts, tarts, and more call us to them with an un-natural amount of gravity for their pint sized portions. Mini ice cream container? Oh, yeah, I’ll finish you. Tiny cookie, I’ll take two. So when I saw a min key lime pie… well, I’m guessing you figured it out. This Key Lime Pie […]

Tuscaloosa Tollhouse Pie

Things have been really kicking up for us the mountain biking front so I thought my novice mountain biking self should share some thoughts with you. You will fall. You will have cuts, scrapes, and bruises. But, until the day you fall in horse poop, you’re not having a bad day. Stop thinking and peddle through it. Whenever I just push a little harder, I usually make it over the rocks, roots and other impediments. Freeze your extra water bottle. It’s gotten so hot that I cleared my only water in like 15 minutes on one of our last rides. […]

Pie it Forward: Sugar Cream Pie & Giveaway

Sugar_cream_pie_0154A

Two recipes in two weeks from the same book? Crazy, I know. First, let me start by saying that I am choosing to review this book and was not asked to. They did however send me an unexpected copy the weekend I had my wisdom teeth pulled, like a gift from the  Tooth Fairy, so that and the Percocet may have effected my opinions of this book. Conquering pie dough was on my list of things do to for the blog this year so receiving a book all about pie was about the best kick in the pants I was going to […]

Meyer Lemon Pudding Pie

lemon_pudding_tart_0112

Sometimes you just need a few minutes, moments of inspiration to try to gather your thoughts and come up with a good menu plan for the upcoming holiday dinner. There is so much anticipation for classic family favorites that you only get to indulge in once a year, and then there is the opportunity for new traditions to be brought to the table. For a food blogger, I’m sure you can imagine the ridiculous amount of pressure. Lucky for me, I forgot Easter was this weekend and decided to wing it. A quick phone call between my step mom and I and we pretty much […]

Pumpkin Pie Martini

pumpkin_pie_martini_7

Things have been crazy at the homestead with a lack of internet for over 9 days now. I have to come in to work early and leave late to try to keep things up and running here and the guilt of not commenting on other blogs is driving me a little batty. Ok, that one made me sound crazy. However, Handsome and I have been catching up on some reading and some movies and the house is spotless so I guess there’s some good coming of it. I feel trivial complaining about a lack of the internet when there are […]

Top 10 Recipes For Thanksgiving and Gingersnap-Spiced Mini Pumpkin Pies

pumpkin_pie_17

But Miss Kita… you told us last week you didn’t like pumpkin pie…. Liar liar pants on fire. Ok, ok. I hear ya! But the truth is, I don’t like pumpkin pie. There’s just something about it, after about two forkfuls I’m done. Unless there is a mountain, and I mean ridiculous-right-to-your-hips-never-wear-skinny-jeans-again. Ever. kind of mountain of whipped cream on top, I just can’t finish a slice.  Lucky for me, we little bakers have the technology and know how to make pumpkin pie in two forkful sized portions. Now, when we can make hosiery that doesn’t rip on the first wear too, I’ll be a […]

Pumpkin Pie Waffles

pumpkin_waffle_5

Going into this year’s Thanksgiving, take a step back and remember – no one’s perfect! We’ve all had our fair share of entertaining flops, but take a tip from Julia Child and roll with it. I recently ripped out an article in Rachael Ray magazine where Guy, Spike and a few others I’d never heard of share their Thanksgiving horror stories from dropping turkeys on the ground while almost setting the house on fire to completely forgetting to cook the thing! I knew a person who cooked the whole thing upside down, not knowing any better and it was the […]

Cinnamon Chai Cream Pie

chai_pie_8

It’s too early to utter the word holiday, to think about stocking stuffers, or heaven forbid, hum White Christmas in public (or on the internet) for fear of someone wiping out their make shift voodoo doll and lighting you on fire. There’s something about the thought of “the holidays” before Black Friday that just sets some people off. I can’t blame them, seeing red and green decked aisles in August really puts a sour taste in my mouth. But, personally, I start thinking about the holidays as early as mid July. It’s not that I want to skip down the aisles of […]

Celebrate Father’s Day: Boston Cream Pie

boston_cream_pie15

I’m my fathers daughter. Sure I’m not as tan as him, my eyes aren’t blue, and we joke around that I’m not his – but there’s no denying it, I’m his. 100%. And I wouldn’t change that for the world. My daddy is the worlds best daddy. He is Santa, the Easter Bunny, the tooth fairy, and a man is big enough to be a father every day of his life. We had our rough spots but it’s all come out in the wash and now I can’t even remember why we used to fight  (I was a teenager once….). […]

Boston Cream Pie Minis

Mother Nature <3’s me. Hates the rest of the east coast today but <3’s me. Its overcast, not a billion degrees, and generally speaking a nice day. Do I feel like an ass for writing this as the weather is only due to a hurricane somewhere off of the east coast, yep. But today is my kind of weather. I’ll just sit back, enjoy this weather and wait to be smitten by the Mother Nature for being a big jerk-face.   I hope the weather is somewhat like this again tomorrow as I will be helping out my boyfriends mom […]

Zesty Lemon Pie

DSC_0046

Its been blazing here with no break for rain. The humidity is so thick you could slice it with a knife… So not my kind of weather. Heat I don’t mind. Humidity = ew. My garden is suffering hardcore. I’m sad to see everything turning shades of brown with all the work I put into it. Weeds apparently love long dry spells and lots of humidity because they are flourishing. My next garden will be made of weeds and canas. Resilient isn’t even the word…. I realized I was missing prime pie season with all the great berries that are […]
