The other day I overheard Anne Burrell on Secrets of a Restaurant Chef say that she loves black pepper and pretty much adds it to everything.  Besides the many other reasons I'm convinced she and I would be BFF's in the kitchen, that one adds a major bonus point.

I'm a freak for black pepper. I don't think any recipe (baking aside) gets plated without black pepper. But here's the secret. I'm super cheap. I have always just kept the dollar store pepper grinder near by. I can see the shock on your face from here. Don't judge. But today I get to finally spice up my breakfast some fancy freshly ground black pepper and not only while I'm out to eat.

BBQ Pork Frittata for Two

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbs butter
  • ½ teas shallot, minced
  • ⅓ - ½ cup shredded pulled pork
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tbs milk
  • ¼ teas fresh thyme
  • salt and pepper
  • ¼ cup shredded sharp cheddar

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Whisk eggs, milk, thyme, salt, and pepper in a small bowl and set aside.

Heat a 6" oven safe skillet over medium heat until just smoking. Add butter and swirl to coat. Add shallot and cook for 30 seconds, until fragrant. Add pulled pork and toss until headed through. Pour egg mixture into skillet and scatter shredded cheese on top.

Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes or until cooked through.

Season with salt and pepper and serve with additional barbecue sauce of desired.

    I could really use the nutmeg mill. I have one of those little metal graters now, either I through away half of every nut or I scrape the end of my finger every time I use nutmeg.

    Peogeot coffee grinders have a great rep, though I don't have one (hint, hint). I use a Zassenhaus for travel and a German war surplus coffee grinder made by Trösser for home (this was literally made to go to war, cast iron & steel construction, can easily hold a pound of beans).

    I could use a good salt grinder. I only have my housemates salt shaker and it has large holes the allow way to much salt to pass through. Nothing as bad as salty eggs or fries !!

    I have been on a mission to find a good set of salt & pepper mills, seems the ones i purchase break due to too much use...good thing i follow pass the sushi on FB and the twitter machine, other wise i would not have found out about the quality products from the fine people at peugeot-usa...Like the Châteauneuf mills offered in Black or Wild Cherry made with select french beech wood and accented with brushed stainless steel. And please dont get me started on Peugeot's exclusive u'Select grind adjustment system! Also being that i am pork enthusiast (to say the least) i will be making the above frittata...-Jon Alcoff

  45. I too love pepper. A friend that travels to Borneo shares some of the pepper he gets from there with us. It is the best I've ever had. Any of those pepper mills would be great. But if I had to choose just one I guess I would go with the Promo Mill.
