Granola breakfast cookies are little bites of healthy goodness, ready to help you kick start your morning! These cookies are full of dark chocolate and almonds, making them perfectly sweet, without tasting like dessert.

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Small Planet Foods asking if I would like to sample some of the products from two of their companies. The first,  Cascadian Farm, specializes in healthy and organic breakfast items, while the second, Muir Glen, had some tasty tomato products. Would a girl like to sample? Um...

Lucky for me, I have just recently tried to get into the habit of eating breakfast. It's not something I have enjoyed doing since the toys in my Captain Crunch started to really suck or vanish altogether. From high school on, I don't ever recall stopping for breakfast. First, I don't wake up hungry. It's usually 1 or 2 PM by the time my tummy starts to grumble. Second, I don't care for sugary sweet breakfast foods. They are just too much. So, if I did nibble before noon, it was usually on last nights leftovers of the first piece of meat I could find in the fridge. (Thank God I added the last part to that sentence.)

But, now that we're mountain biking and trying to be more active and healthy, Handsome really thinks I should try to eat breakfast. Does he know how hard its been? I wake up, not hungry, futz around, still not hungry, shower, get ready, nope not hungry.... Finally, before rushing out the door, I shovel some Honey Bunches of Oats down (his cereal of choice) and then spend the rest of the day being extra hungry. What's up with that?

So, to add some variety, I chose some cereals from Cascadian Farm and a box of delicious sounding almond granola to munch on. Muir Glen sent me a beautiful sample of 4 of their canned tomato products. (I'll show you what I used those in next week.) I recieved the Multi Grain Squares and Dark Chocolate Almond Granola cereal and the kid in me chose the Chocolate O's™. All have been very tasty. The Multi Grain Squares are very similar to Chex and make me want to have them as a snack mix. The Chocolate O's remind me of Lucky Charms, but with chocolate and minus the cardboard charms.

And as for the munchalicious granola breakfast cookies...

Well, check these babies out.

Combine the flower and butter mixtures until well incorporated in three batches. Fold in the remaining ingredients.
Using a small ice cream scoop, divide the dough onto prepared baking sheets. Press on each gently with your fingers.
Bake about 10-12 minutes.

  1. That's easy! Lucky Charms for sure!

  2. The funniest thing was, we weren't allowed "sweet cereals", like Fruit Loops and stuff, except on VERY SPECIAL OCCASIONS (like the time we stayed in Port Charlotte and got in so late at night that Mum didn't have time to bring groceries to stock the little kitchenette we had, so she took us to the little store nearby on the next day and we had Honey Combs for breakfast because that was the least sugary cereal they sold. One I got to try later on, nearing adulthood, was Honey Graham Ohs, which I still adore today, but if I had to pick a favourite childhood cereal, it was probably a cereal called Triples, which was like Rice Krispies, except it had two other colours of rice puffs in there - like, corn and wheat, I think. Awesome, awesome memories come with that cereal.

  3. I don't eat breakfast either, I think it has to do with not being a morning person. We are trying to eat better here too. These look really good!

  52. Omg goodness these are so incredible looking cookies. Congrats on top 9. I must bookmark and try these out. Gorgeous!

  53. Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says:

For a second I thought you were going to put the tomatoes in these cookies too. LOL! They look delicious - and tomato-free. 🙂

My favorite cereal was Special K... but I always topped it with banana and a TON of sugar. I loved scraping the sugar out of the bottom of the bowl. The thought of it make me nauseous now (it was A LOT of sugar).

  54. Sounds boring but I loved Quaker Oat squares...though Froot Loops was the exciting naughty favorite I could eat only at friends' houses whose parents let them eat sugary cereal...

  55. My favorite cereal was Cinnamon Toast Crunch and these breakfast cookies look amazing! Cookies for breakfast? Yes please!

  56. Followed @passthesushi on Twitter and thumbs up on stumble!

  57. Most definitely Froot Loops-although we only got to have them as dessert or on vacation. 🙂 I also follow you on Facebook now-thanks for all of the great recipes!

  58. CapNCrunch

But I only ate it at camp b/c at home we didn't have sugary cereals!

  59. Hester @ Alchemy in the Kitchen says:

Kita, Beeeeeutiful styling and gorgeous cookies. I can see kids ditching the cocopops and cheerios in favour of these lovelies.

Favourite childhood cereal - golden nuggets. They were re-released a few years ago and I couldn't wait to taste them - bleuagh!

  60. Nice...congratulations for earning TOP 9!!

  61. Colette @ JustForFoodies says:

Cookies for breakfast?! I like how you think!

  62. My favorite childhood cereal was Golden Crisp. I'm following Pass the Sushi on Facebook (Dana McWilliams). I'm also following Cascadian Farm and Muir Glen on Facebook. 63. I HATED cereal as a kid. But that was mainly because I hated milk. As an adult, now that's a different story. I LOVE, looooove cereal. My favorite unhealthy cereal: reeses puffs. And if I HAVE to be healthy, I like a simple oatbran flake, with a little honey drizzled on top and some sliced bananas.

  64. I follow you on twitter

  65. I like cascadian farms on fb

  66. Favorite cereal? Fruit Loops, Honey Crisp & Corn Pops. But I usually got Alpha Bits.

I occasionally have breakfast cereal now, but dry. I really don't like milk.

  71. Christina @ Sweet Pea's Kitchen says:

These look great! I am obsessed with Erin Baker's Breakfast Cookies...it looks like I could save a bunch of money making my own! 🙂

  72. Favourite childhood cereal? Hmmm...my mum's homemade granola, actually. But Cascadian farms is good stuff! Great breakfast cookies.

  73. Ana Helena Campbell says:

I love your creative recipe but unfortunately I did not eat cereal growing up, that is okay, I liked Brazilian breakfast a lot, but now that I am here in America my boys love the Cascadian dark chocolate almond granola, funny. I should start eating it sometimes with almond milk, yummy!

  74. Jen at The Three Little Piglets says:

Favorite childhood cereal was Frosted Flakes. My mom never, and I mean NEVER bought sugary cereal, so the only time I got to have Frosted Flakes was when I was visiting my grandparents because it was my grandfather's favorite cereal. I really loved visiting them! (Not just because of the Frosted Flakes, although that didn't hurt). I'm not a big breakfast eater myself, but I've been known to eat more than a few cookies for breakfast.

  75. The Chocolate Priestess says:

I liked Golden Grahams the best.

Though I once bothered my mother for so many months about getting Lucky Charms that she made me a deal -- she'd buy them for me but I'd get nothing else for breakfast until they were gone. I hated them and I had no breakfast for a few months because I couldn't stand to eat more than a few of them at a time.

  76. What beautiful photos, Kita! I don't think I can do chocolate for breakfast, but I could snack on these beauties and other time of the day 🙂

  77. Oh, man, those cookies look amazing! What is it you said about my bread? "It could take all day to make and I'd still be all about it"? Ditto here!

I was a health nerd even as a child; my favorite food was broccoli, and my favorite cereal was raisin bran. I know, I know. All my friends were eating Fruity Pebbles and stuff, and there I was like, "Oh, but raisin bran is so good!"

  78. Maggie @ Vittles and Bits says:

Umm... cookies for breakfast? Yes please! Haha I too am trying to be better about eating a good breakfast in the morning. It's working too, I find I feel better throughout the day if I eat something substantial. Anyway ... as far as favorite childhood cereal, it was probably plain ol' Cheerios. Despite my many bad food habits, I actually never liked super sugary cereals!
