Breakfast Sausage Ravioli for Pass the Cook Book Club

Breakfast Sausage Ravioli \ PasstheSushi.com

It’s an extra special jam packed post today. Why? Because it’s cookbook club day! Because Breakfast for Dinner is the best thing ever. Because making pasta by hand makes it really hard to not take messy step by step photos and cover your fancy camera in pasta goo. Because we’re giving away a copy of our featured cookbook this month! Because it’s sunny! Ok… got a little carried away there. Erin handled the recipe selection this month, using a cookbook that I just happened to have on the shelves that I have been neglecting by fellow food blogger Lindsay Landis, […]

Hot Cross Buns for Pass the Cook Book Club

Hot Cross Buns // PasstheSushi.com

Yeast is not. my. thing. I know that there is a skill, a knowledge bestowed upon those who work with yeast that comes from practice, finely honed skills, a sense for when it’s perfect, and the eye of newt or some such other witchcraft because yeast is like heck no all up in my kitchen. First, it doesn’t froth, it never froths. Second, it doesn’t rise. Nope. Even if I use the no frothing required yeast, it takes double the time to even make the dough burp from a wee bit of gas. Yeah, yeast and I need to have […]

Salmon in a Saffron Cream Sauce for Pass the Cook Book Club

Salmon in a Saffron Cream Sauce // PasstheSushi.com

It’s Pass the Cook Book Club time! With Mardi Gras right around the corner, I picked recipes from Cooking Up a Storm, an amazing cook book that with help from local paper, The Times-Picayune of New Orleans, gathered and collected cherished recipes lost when Hurricane Katrina struck. This book is priceless in my opinion for that alone. There is something about those tidbits of paper, scratched and stained recipes and notes handed down that matter more than stuff. There is comfort to be had in food, around the table, with good company. Every recipe begins with a short intro about where it […]

Spicy Taco Mac and Cheese for Pass the Cook Book Club

Spicy Taco Mac and Cheese from PasstheSushi.com

Let a little sun shine it – this month’s Pass the Cook Book club recipe features the snappy Sunny Anderson’s cookbook – Easy Food for Real Life. I’m not much on Food Network Personalities these days. Once Mario left and there were competitions for Iron Chef – it lost all it’s charm. Late night re-runs of Alton, and I’m there! I like to cook – but I don’t need tailored personalities and tablescapes to prove I’m the real deal. With the influx of stars clearly designed to appeal to mom’s, I’m just not game. But Sunny at least seems real. […]

Spam and Eggs for Pass the Cook Book Club with Debbie Lee

Spam and Eggs from PasstheSushi.com

Don’t knock it til you try it. That’s a phrase I grew up hearing when something new was put on the plate in front of me. I have tried to live like that since I started cooking. The more I cooked, more ingredients I worked with, the more I tried, the more food I found pretty darned tasty. So, when I checked out the recipes for this month’s round of Pass the Cook Book Club, from  Seoultown Kitchen by Debbie Lee, that’s the spirit I embraced. Sam (the darling hostess over at Little Ferraro Kitchen), picked three recipes – and […]

S’mores Layer Cake for Pass the Cook Book Club with Smitten Kitchen!

S’mores Layer Cake from PasstheSushi.com

Yep, this post is late today. You know why? Pinterest. I’m not denying it. There are like 47 tabs open on my screen right now. 7 of which are just kittens being adorable. Thank God for the internet…. It’s another monthly installment of the Pass the Cook Book Club! Oh snap. This time we are cooking from the lovely Smitten Kitchen cook book from food blogger extraordinaire Deb Perelman. Can we say OG food blog much? Simple, clean, and beautiful. Much like her quality recipes and simple counter top presentation. What’s not to love about that. This month we could […]

Easy Gazpacho & Goat Cheese Croutons for Pass the Cook Book Club

Easy Gazpacho from PasstheSushi.com

It’s that time again! Time to dust off those cookbooks, crack em open, and put on our aprons. Who am I kidding – there was no apron ;D Heck, I barely got it together in time for this months round of the Pass the Cook Book Club, which is why Juanita’s Cucina  picked the recipes for this round from Ina’s cookbook Foolproof. I own a rediculous collection of cookbooks, and although I find Ina’s cooking style appealing, I do not own any of her books. I have always wanted to try her recipes though, so when I saw that Jen […]

Bobby Flay’s Crunchburger for Pass the Cook Book Club

Bobby Flay

Vary rarely do I make a recipe exactly as it states. I don’t ever measure (unless I’m baking), I just toss things in, add things, omit things, and pretty much wing it after the title and initial concept are established. I also grind my own meat, 99% of the time. And damned if I have not whipped up some amazing burgers. The one single solitary time that I grab some ground beef from the market in a rush and follow a recipe to a T, don’t you know what happens. Handsome takes one bite and exclaims that it’s the best […]

Strawberry Basil Gelato for Pass the Cook Book Club

Strawberry Basil Gelato from PasstheSushi.com

Here’s a little something from your childhood that grew up just in time to save your taste buds from another happy hour disappointment at the local Sonic. (Maybe that’s just my local Sonic). And it’s another month of the Pass the Cook Book Club. My little club is finding it’s feet – and I’m finding I need to be a little more organized. But in the end, sharing recipes together is a blast! I’m always curious to see what others are making (and nosy so that I pick something yummy). All the other group members are great and I am really enjoying reading […]

Weeknight Barbecue Chicken Taquitos for the Pass the Cook Book Club

Bbq Chicken Taquitos Via PasstheSushi.com

This month the Pass the Cook Book Club picked up Jenny’s cookbook, the Picky Palate, named after her awesome blog. The club is designed to have us use the books collecting dust in our ever growing collection (any one can join!) and this month, keeping with spring flavors and wanting a burst of bright in the rotation after Guy’s big manly meals last month, I chose three recipes that I thought would be a lot of fun. There were the Shrimp Mango Quesadillas, Weeknight Chicken Taquitos, and uber cute sounding Peanut Butter and Jelly Mini Pies. Each of these was family […]

Pass the Cook Book Club: Guy Fieri’s Snake Bite Sandwich

Sneak Bite Sandwich from PasstheSushi.com

It’s round two of Pass the Cook Book Club – and I’m not sure I could be more excited. This month we cooked recipes from Guy Fieri’s cookbook. I had received this book as a gift for my birthday and flipped through it loving a lot but being overwhelmed by the portions or effort for each recipe, I placed it on my book shelf where it proceeded to earn it’s ever classy layer of dust. But I knew the book had a ton of potential so I grabbed it off of the shelf for the club. Flipping through, I must have tabbed […]

Pass the Cook Book Club: Pioneer Woman’s Herb Roasted Pork

Herb Roasted Pork

Today is the very first post for the Pass the Cook Book Club! An idea I had to dust off my ever growing collections of unloved unused cookbooks and challenge myself to test some more recipes. Convinced I was not the only one in this boat, I launched the Pass the Cook Book Club and am really excited to see that there are other people out there that want to test out some new recipes! Three recipes are chosen from a selected book and the club members can pick the recipe they want to try and we all post on […]
