Sweet Potato Pie with Gingersnap Crust and Meringue

You know how Christmas tastes like roast beasts and comes with Who-pudding? Well, this pie is that – but for Thanksgiving. It is everything that Thanksgiving should taste like. It’s homey, comforting, delicious, and perfect. It is the kind of pie that reminds you of cozy fires and hot cocoa, warm smiles, and comfy socks. This is the pie you need to make share with your loved ones this Thanksgiving. And it’s from non-other than the boys over at Baked. I can’t rave about the Baked books enough, and have been doing so every single year when a new one […]

Pumpkin Spice Macaroons

Sorry, guys. I couldn’t help it. I have been eyeing this recipe up for like 2 years. I meant to post it last year, but my macaroon skills were not up to par. After 3 attempts, I walked away vowing to try again. Well, again was this season, and sure my macaroons may not be perfect looking, but oh my were they perfect. One bite into these little clouds and you will understand what the macaroon madness is all about. I only experienced my first macaroon a year or so ago, and it was love at first bite. Tender, light, […]

Irish Apple Cake with Boozy Custard

In your dessert menu craving an update? Are you tired of rolling pie crusts over and over again to make the same thing every year? Do you secretly loathe cutting those apples into thin even strips every year and have flashbacks to reality cooking shows? Well, have I got a cake for you.  That’s right. This one is all the things you love about the fall baking season with a fraction of the work. (If you have been playing along this season, I am all about that). It’s loaded with apples (randomly diced for a homey look – none of […]

Pear Cornmeal Cake with Rosemary Simple Syrup

Forget apple pie. Let go of the pumpkin tradition. Set out this simple pear cornmeal cake this holiday season and watch their shock. This cake will take a fraction of the time you would spend rolling out dough and a quarter of the stress. It’s so uncomplicated that you can go back to actually enjoying your time in the kitchen, with company, and doing the things that matter. The rosemary simple syrup is understated, and the perfect touch to really pull the flavors together. Let them judge for themselves. This cake is the show stopper this holiday season. Apple Dumplings

Apple Dumpling Recipe ||PasstheSushi.com

It’s very simple. Shorter days make me a little old lady. I just want to wrap up in a blanket and read until the sun comes back out to play. It’s making my already crazy jam packed busy life speed by that much more rapidly and I am not sure I can tell the weekends from the workdays. BUT things have been pretty awesome. Photographed a wedding as a second shooter on Saturday with the awesome Adrienne Matz Photography (more photos a coming, I promise) Tested out some super cute Chef shoes that Mozo is putting out over the weekend. They […]

Zucchini Whoopie Pies

Zucchini Whoopie Pies || PasstheSuhsi.com

Everything right now is apple or pumpkin. All of it. And I won’t lie, I totally found myself trying to enjoy a #PSL the other day, but they don’t make them in ‘skinny’ and I didn’t know a vente from a grande and that annoyed the young man behind the counter…. so regular coffee it was. But I’m here in defense today of all of the amazing produce out right night. The squash are redonculous, stacked cumbersome and high at my local market, the pears, all shapes and sizes. The green fresh beautiful produce… I don’t want to miss any […]

Sage and Honey Biscuits

Sage and Honey Biscuits from PasstheSushi.com

Let’s face it. That round little dough boy makes a pretty perfect dinner roll and there’s nothing wrong with that. No one will judge as the bread basket empties and you are forced to pop open another can. But, just in case you want to add one more thing to the Thanksgiving menu this year, these Sage and Honey Biscuits are where its at. They didn’t knock me off my seat, but I had been cooking and taste testing all day by the time these bad boys came out of the oven, but all of my pre-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving guests raved […]

Pumpkin Latte Coffee Cake

Pumpkin Latte Coffee Cake from PasstheSushi.com

Normally, I test out one or two new recipes on friends at big holiday gatherings or social events, always forgetting the danger of that until I set the platters down and have my own private lack of Xanax induced freak out.  Instead of prepping and testing some recipes all week for a little upcoming Thanksgiving feast, this year I have been (much like a whiny child) doing my civic duty and serving on jury duty all week, leaving me unable to cook or test any recipes between that and working. Oh no. So, we’re going to wing it and see […]

Pumpkin Bread Pudding with Cinnamon Spice Glaze

Pumpkin Bread Pudding // Passthesushi.com

Still trying to figure out that holiday menu? That’s ok, because I am too. I have 99 pages marked and magazine recipes flying about and I know that when it comes down to it, the same old sides will be staring my family down the day of. But, if you are looking for something that you could break into steps and make a few days before, this pumpkin bread pudding is perfect. I made the pumpkin loaves a few days before  I wanted to make the pumpkin bread, snacked on a few slices for myself, and when I was ready […]

Apple and Brie Dessert Quesadillas

Apple and Brie Dessert Quesadillas from PasstheSushi.com

Eating out is stupid expensive. And I am very very guilty of eating out lately. A lot. A lot more than I would care to admit. With the holiday season right around the corner, it’s time to tighten the belt buckle and get back to my roots – making dinner. I have challenged myself to a solid 2 weeks of no take out, no eating out, and painfully, no brunch out. (Guilty of loving a Sunday brunch. I’m not alone, right?) I’ve written the meal plan, inventoried the pantry, and am ready to get back to some basics. Two weeks […]

Whiskey Pear Tart – the one thing you should probably make this fall

Whiskey Pear Tart from PasstheSushi.com

This weekend was killer. Handsome and I participated in Bike to the Bay for MS 2013. It was a 75 mile trek from Dover to the beeches of Delaware with the option to add an additional 25 to round out the trip to a full 100. I went into the day wanting to crush the 100, but heavy winds and a need for a bit more endurance training made the choice to finish out the 75 easier. Handsome however continued on with another friend he met along the way and they took turns through the last 25 pulling one another […]

Pumpkin Pie with Brown Sugar Meringue & a #Pumpkin Recipe Round Up

Pumpkin_Pie_0137

Don’t know about you, but I am in serious denial. Denial that Thanksgiving is next week. Denial that Christmas is like 39 days away. Denial that I won’t be able to try all the new recipes I had planned for you. Denial that my house needs a top to bottom scrubbing before anyone can set their merry little toes in my doorway this season. We may need to form a support group. As for Thanksgiving, I am not prepared. I had plans of posting main dishes and sides, but there was a hurricane, then some sick days, and me working […]

Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie

Pecan_pie_0053

There’s been a lot going on for the last few weeks in the world. For my part, and many not so far away from me, a lot of the busyness has been dealing with the aftermath of hurricane Sandy. In my neighborhood, we got lucky. Really lucky. My boyfriend only had to help his grandparents with some flooding. Other parts were not so lucky and many are still displaced from their homes and in need of a helping hand. I have teamed up with several other great bloggers across the internet to help bring more awareness and maybe even some donations to […]

Tart Cranberry-Cherry Pie

Cherry_Pie_0018

If one things scares me in the kitchen, it’s dough. We only had pie once a year in my house, one pumpkin and one apple.. All homemade by my father that we would dish out on Thanksgiving day to anyone who would eat them, because we didn’t. That is my whole pie experience  All 26 years of it. When I think pie, I think fruit filled, gooey, warm filled crispy golden crust creations. Key word in there being fruit. Fruit is something I am still not down with. Now cake, cupcakes, cookies, brownies… Yeah, I think I have those covered. But pie? […]

Halloween Sugar Cookies

Halloween_sugar_cookies_0015A

The chilly weather has me needing layers and craving new gear (which can be a very dangerous thing) so this weeks round up is all about riding gear. Lucky for you, I just made it one picture so you can scroll down to cookie awesomeness – or you can actually check out those spiftastic handles that I’m putting on my wishlist. Yeah, I seriously need a black jersey. Why? Because who doesn’t feel bad ass when clothed in all black? I know it certainly makes me prance around the house like a ninja. Yeah, I’m full of inspiring posts this week […]

Pumpkin Maple Stack Cake

Maple_Stack_cake_0339

Last week I got to be a kid again. And it was awesome. My dad and I spent the day in Philly, going to the zoo eating out and seeing a concert. It was a blast. I didn’t work, worry about emails, or wonder what was happening on twitter. I was walking around a zoo making sure we didn’t miss anything and pouting because the rhino refused to turn around – for hours. Giant rhino booty does not a good picture make.  (These pics were all taken with my Tameron Lens – seriously, great investment for a walk around lens. […]

Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls

pumpkin_cinnamon_rolls_0183

So yeah, these cinnamon rolls are all over the internet right now, along with anything else pumpkin. I was flipping through my new copy of Baked Elements and trying to figure out what recipes I would test for my review and the entire chapter on pumpkin caught my eye. Fall is here and apples and pumpkin are pretty much on every food blog out there. I’m pretty sure I would have been blacklisted from the food blogging community had I not posted something pumpkin related. When I was making these, I didn’t think I was going to love them. None of the […]

Rustic Pear Tart with Saffron Pastry

pear_galette_0154

Let’s get real, have a little <3 to <3 shall we? My foodies, friends, and fellow bloggers, this one’s for you. Lately, things just haven’t been the same around here. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was a little down on the whole blog thing and couldn’t figure out why. I am certainly not tired of cooking. I still love snapping pics and getting better with my camera. And I’m always making plans for what to post next. But lately, I’m just not feeling the love. And after looking around and reading some other posts, I don’t […]

Caramel Apple Cake

Apple_cake_0002

Just for the record, caramel, apples, and I don’t get along very well. Caramel and anything else, no bigs. Caramel and apples and something just goes all sorts of wrong in my kitchen. Caramel ends up everywhere besides where it is supposed to be and usually ends up with me doing a lot of extra cleaning. See hot mess here. Which pretty much sums up how I feel today. Maybe it’s the weather, maybe it’s the lifestyle but something in me is going a little nuts today. I am all sorts of down on myself, down on Pass the Sushi […]
