Mac and Cheese Soup

Mac and Cheese Soup // PasstheSushi.com

This post was going to be about glorious carbs. Then it was going to be a rant about the miserable winter. It could have been about sugary sweet Valentine’s Day (truth moment, I totally forgot!!!). But as I sit here rewriting this for the 3rd time (and really not wanting to sound too grumpy), it’s about the Olympics. I don’t watch sports. I don’t know the first thing about scoring, points, super-bowls, or soccer. But I freakin love the Olympics. Watching the globe compete is inspiring. And not just because I live in one of the countries that sends a […]

Cheesesteak Pizza – Elevate Pizza Night

Cheesesteak Pizza from PasstheSushi.com

Last night we challenged ourselves to a new pizza recipe inspired by Classico’s pizza sauces from their ‘Elevate Pizza Night’ challenge they sent out to us. Generally speaking, I had never been a fan of Classico sauce. If I used a can sauce it was Prego for quick family pasta or something that I could mix and add a ton of my own flavor to before it went on the table. But I had three little bottles of pizza sauce to taste test and give a go at…. And let me tell you, it that little jar of pre-made store […]

Spicy Taco Mac and Cheese for Pass the Cook Book Club

Spicy Taco Mac and Cheese from PasstheSushi.com

Let a little sun shine it – this month’s Pass the Cook Book club recipe features the snappy Sunny Anderson’s cookbook – Easy Food for Real Life. I’m not much on Food Network Personalities these days. Once Mario left and there were competitions for Iron Chef – it lost all it’s charm. Late night re-runs of Alton, and I’m there! I like to cook – but I don’t need tailored personalities and tablescapes to prove I’m the real deal. With the influx of stars clearly designed to appeal to mom’s, I’m just not game. But Sunny at least seems real. […]

Poor Girls Lobster Grilled Cheese & T-Fal Griddle Giveaway

Poor Girls Lobster Grilled Cheese via PasstheSushi.com

Believe it or not, until I made this sandwich, I had forgotten how amazing a grilled cheese could be. Until I took my first bite, I didn’t know how perfect a grilled cheese with clumps of seafood in the middle could be. I could have eaten three and not given a crap about by arteries. I’m young, wild, dangerous, and you can’t stop me. When T-Fal sent over an email with this lobster grilled cheese and their tiny little grilled cheese griddle I was open to give it a try. This griddle is just that – a single egg – […]

Red Velvet Ice Cream Sandwiches

Red Velvet Ice Cream Sandwiches via PasstheSushi.com

Nothing screams summertime like an ice cream sandwich. And I have been quite shamefully indulging in my fair share of ice cream sandwiches this summer. From chipwiches to these red velvet ice cream melts, I’ve had more ice cream in the past 4 weeks than I have had in the past 4 years. But I bike now… so I’ve earned it… or at least that’s what I’m telling myself. So, after a long day of web work, slinging comics, and riding, these creamy, sinful ice cream sandwiches are perfect. And melty. But perfect. The ice cream isn’t really an ice […]

Nutter Butter Banana Pudding – in Jars!

Nutter Butter Banana Pudding from PasstheSushi.com

Motto of the week “Instagram that shit!” Which would have probably been more awesome if I had a cell phone signal for like 5 minutes while tucked away in the mountains of Virginia and her half-sister to the west. A 4 day weekend with no map or plan in which I learn that even though the memories are about the trip and not the destination, sometimes a little preparedness goes a long way. We kicked off the day one by heading up to Hagerstown to pre-ride an upcoming race course and visit some friends. The course was BORING – straight up a hill and […]

Peanut Butter Krispy Treats

Peanut Butter Krispy Treats from PasstheSushi.com

I admit it. For as little as I know about football, I know even less about basketball. I know that people are playing the game right now, and that it’s some sort of March Madness, so I’m guessing it’s similar to the playoffs for football and getting close to basketball’s version of the Super Bowl. I don’t think they get nearly the commercials though, as I’ve never watched a basketball game for the commercials. Heck, I’ve never watched a basketball game. One thing I do know, though, is how to feed a room full of hungry fans. I might not […]

Pass the Cook Book Club: Guy Fieri’s Snake Bite Sandwich

Sneak Bite Sandwich from PasstheSushi.com

It’s round two of Pass the Cook Book Club – and I’m not sure I could be more excited. This month we cooked recipes from Guy Fieri’s cookbook. I had received this book as a gift for my birthday and flipped through it loving a lot but being overwhelmed by the portions or effort for each recipe, I placed it on my book shelf where it proceeded to earn it’s ever classy layer of dust. But I knew the book had a ton of potential so I grabbed it off of the shelf for the club. Flipping through, I must have tabbed […]

Cake Batter Oreo Fudge

Cake Batter Oreo Fudge

Sometimes you need to eat lettuce and cry yourself to sleep night after night. Then there are times when you just need to shove some fat kid food in your face. Right now, I’m trying to find a happy medium. We have decided to start a ‘program’ – you know, wake up early, sweat your ass off, eat better, run faster, jump higher sort of thing. I’m not sure I can handle it, but who knows. All so we can be a smidgen faster on the bikes (which really doesn’t matter as long as you are still crashing into trees. Yeah, […]

Slow Cooker Barbecue Mac and Cheese

Slow-cooker-barbecue-mac-0496a

Because the weather outside is supposed to be frightful for the next few days. Because some days you just need to be fat. Because nothing hits the spot quite like macaroni and cheese. And because nothing says easy dinner like the crock pot. This is what’s for dinner. And there’s probably going to be leftovers. …that is, unless you accidentally leave the slow cooker on high for an extra four hours after supper causing your pasta to over cook and turn to mush. Then, it might just be pizza tomorrow night.

Game Day Noshing: Slow Cooker Cheeseburger Dip

cheeseburger_dip_0246

A year ago 2.5 miles was the hardest thing in the world. Pedaling up the hills and over the terrain would leave me heaving for air and disgusting with sweat. It was gross and I hated it. Finding the motivation to pick up the bike and ride was tough, but I was far too stubborn to be left behind while Handsome was out having such a good time. I will never forget one of our first rides. Every time I climbed one hill, I would look up and see rolling fields with only steeper hills in front of me. My […]

Quick and Easy Rocky Road Fudge

Fudge_0119

Yo Kita (said in my most Bitchin’ Kitchen Nadia G voice) what’s up with the wonky post schedule this week?  Um, It’s Christmas, Fonz. I promise a normal week next week complete with New Years countdowns, resolutions and killer recipes. But for today, I just got done at the gym, my house is still a crazy hot mess, my cat has claimed my lap and my legs have gone past the tingly asleep stage to the omg you are going to fall on your face when you stand up and my dog has the most disgusting farts in the world. So for […]

Enchilada Pasta Skillet & a Le Creuset Skillet Giveaway

enchilada__skillet_0167

To wrap up an amazing year at Pass the Sushi I have one more killer giveaway for you. There are some big changes in store for the blog next year, some large goals for 2013, and a lot more sass and fun. But that’s for a future post. For today, in this crazy busy week, I have a simple weeknight meal for you and a chance to win this gorgeous skillet. Since receiving my Le Creuset skillet, I think all of my other skillets have grown jealous and accumulated a thin layer of dust. I find myself keeping this bad boy ready […]

Pesto Artichoke Lasagna Rolls

Lasagna_rolls_0157

This time of year I am more than guilty of binging on heavy meals – I mean those carb laden heavy meals that sit in your tummy until lunch the next day. Those guilty kinds of means. The heavy ones that are oh so worth it. (The sweat your tush off at the gym the next day meals) And lasagna has to be one of my favorites. I had to travel a few weekends ago and wanted to leave something hearty and delicious behind for my man and these little lasagna rolls were born. I baked them in personal gratin […]

Quick Dinner Fixins: Chicken a la King

Chicken_a_la_king_0061

While trying to get my jingle on this year, I’m finding that good old fashioned cable is working against me. I don’t have any of that fanciness that tells you what’s on other channels or records your shoes, and since they did away with the TV Guide channel, I pretty much have to whip out the laptop if I want to know what’s on TV. (I should mention that I also don’t know the channel numbers anyway). For the first few nights, TV Guide was just screwing with me. When I see Rudolph, I expect an old Rank and Bass stop […]

Breakfast Burgers & Bloody Marys

breakfast_burger_0198A

Men, I have a question for you. What did women do that every time you try to compliment a member of the other sex, you have to follow it up with a long explanation or apology? Now, I’m not talking those sleazy low brow attempts that I get while trying to check out at the market. I’m talking about genuine compliments. Today, a male client of mine asked if I lost weight then immediately started to explain that I hadn’t needed to lose weight and wasn’t fat before. This explanation turned into a 5 minute apology, all before I had […]

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites

cookie_dough_bites_0077jpg

This weeks edition of Diggin’ It Tuesday has been taken hostage by hurricane Sandy. It’s all I’ve talked about for the last 5 days and all I’ve read about (thank you facebook, nice break from politics). So in honor of some rainy windy weather, enjoy this weeks round up! (Hunter Boots from Pinterest, Jacket from Urban Outfitters, Umbrella from Design Fetish, and duckies from Amazon – only $2.99. Sold!)  Now, since I can’t do anything but sit back and watch it rain, why don’t you join me and munch on a few of these amazing cookie dough bites. Come one, […]

Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls

pumpkin_cinnamon_rolls_0183

So yeah, these cinnamon rolls are all over the internet right now, along with anything else pumpkin. I was flipping through my new copy of Baked Elements and trying to figure out what recipes I would test for my review and the entire chapter on pumpkin caught my eye. Fall is here and apples and pumpkin are pretty much on every food blog out there. I’m pretty sure I would have been blacklisted from the food blogging community had I not posted something pumpkin related. When I was making these, I didn’t think I was going to love them. None of the […]

Apple Pie Stuffed French Toast

apple_pie_french_toast_028

Do you judge a market by it’s price tags? Do cheaper price tags and bottom dollar prices make a market less clean or not as good as the ones with the flashy price tags and eateries? My favorite market isn’t the most expensive one in town, but because of it’s location the client base is very wide which means I can find almost anything I am looking for on the shelves, and at prices that won’t make me cringe either. It isn’t always spotless, but with the volume of people they get, I can’t complain about the tidiness though I have […]

Copycat Twix Bars

twix_0093

Not quite ready to give in and shove the flip flops back in the closet until next spring? Me neither! But that doesn’t mean I am not itching to pull out the plaid and rock me some autumn wares. So here’s to a little fall themed shopping I may or may not have done yesterday, hopes to cleaning out the closet, and the inevitable must of going back to my parents house and gathering the remainder of my shoes I left behind in the last move (followed by a serious inventory and probably a trip to Good Will). Stripes Sweater Socks Biker […]

Quick Dinner Fixins’ Cheeseburger Quesadillas

Cheeseburger_quesadilla_0325

Remember when you were a kid and summer lasted forever. You could spend all day every day laying in the sun, running around in the grass and the worry of returning to busy school days never even bothered you. Now that I’m an adult and don’t get summers off, it seems to fly by. Food bloggers everywhere are bursting with fall flavors, hearty soups, and comforting meals getting ready for cold weather to sink in. And I am just as guilty as the rest, prepping some new posts and recipes for the site and some other add on holiday bonuses […]

Monster Bars

Pulled Pork Cornbread Waffles

Pulled_Pork_0475

Last week at Big Summer Pot Luck the topic of jealousy was brought up. How sometimes we cdan see another blog, a more successful person, a cuter house,  or a perfect kitchen and that sometimes we can become jealous of these things. For me, I am jealous of those cute couples that work together in the kitchen. You know the ones that always have the amazing how to photos while one person cooks and the other snaps away. I will never have cute how to pictures featuring me in an apron for two reasons. One, my boyfriend still thinks it’s […]

Cinnamon Roll Waffles

Cinnabun_waffles_0038

When the sun rises early in the morning, like in the summer months, my four legged furry companions have the tendency to rise a little before I would care too. The first chirp of a distant bird sends them into a tizzy and before I can get myself back into the deep comforting sleep, they are bouncing all over me. I swear, it’s like they can tell from rooms away that you are in that in between state – and they are going to do their best to get you out of bed.  Rather than argue, I have been pulling myself out of bed in […]

Waffle Pizzas and Celebrating My 200th Decline

Waffle_pizza_0080

Two years of ‘blogging’, 532 posts, and today we are classic up the joint with these waffle pizzas and celebrating my 200th decline from Foodgawker! Foodgawker, Tastespotting, Tasteologie and others are sites worth drooling over if you are looking for inspiration or just looking. They update a large selection of new recipe posts daily linking back to original recipes from bloggers like myself. Needless to say, I felt that 200 declined posts was a pretty monumental event in my food blogging career. Grab your party hats and kazoos so we can get party started. Recently Declined:     Now, I am […]

Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake

chocolate_butter_cake_0435

It’s nearing 9:30 at night and I just got in from today’s shift. After we closed the store, I had to run to the market for a few things and decided that a turkey and cheese sandwich would be perfect for supper. It beat the extra protein Speical K out by a land slide. So won’t be buying that again. At the market I always choose the most strategic line. I carefully inspect them all and then without fail always end up in the worst line. Sure, there’s not much left to be rung in but something is going to […]

Recipe Redo: Cajun Chicken and Sausage Pasta

Cajun_Pasta_0044

If the way to a man’s heart, is through his stomach, than I have a recipe that is guaranteed to seal the deal. Seriously, you will be lucky if this one makes it to the plate before forks are diving in for creamy flavor filled bites. This was the first real dish I posted on Pass the Sushi and it had been a really long time since I made it. There’s a reason why… just look at the ingredient list. We’re talking serious fat kid love, but it’s a good fat kid love. A serious clog your arteries but can’t stop licking the plate kind of […]
